Transformation-Basic Plus Practice

The document outlines four types of geometric transformations: translation, reflection, enlargement, and rotation. Each transformation is defined with examples and practice questions, focusing on how shapes can be moved, flipped, resized, or rotated. The document also includes instructions for describing transformations that map one shape onto another.

Transformation

1. Translation 2. Reflection 3. Enlargement 4. Rotation

1-Translation: A translation moves a shape. All points of the shape must be moved by the
same amount.
A translation can be up or down and left or right.
5 2. Describe the transformation that
1. Translate shape A by ⌈ ⌉
2 maps shape A onto shape B.

3. Triangle UNH onto Triangle U’N’H’ 4. Triangle ALP onto Triangle A’L’P’
[Link] onto H’N’W’Y’ 6. Triangle TPB onto Triangle T’P’B’.

2-Reflection:
A reflection is a mirror image of a shape. For a reflection we need a line of reflection ( a mirror
line ). When a shape is reflected it is flipped over the mirror line.
After a shape is reflected each new point is the same distance from the mirror line as the
original point.

Practice Qs: Find the image of the given figure using the transformation given in each part
1. Reflection in the line 𝑦 = −2 2. Reflection in x-axis

5. 6.

3-Enlargement:
An enlargement changes the size of a shape. The shape can get bigger or smaller.
To enlarge a shape we need to know the scale factor and the centre of enlargement. The scale
factor tells us how many times bigger ( or smaller ) the shape is.
