Male Reproductive System - PYQs (CBSE Class 12)

Q1. Why are human testes located outside the abdominal cavity? Name the pouch in which

they are present. (CBSE 2015)

Ans: Testes are located outside the abdominal cavity to maintain a temperature 2-2.5°C lower than

the body temperature, which is essential for spermatogenesis. They are present inside a pouch

called the scrotum.

Q2. Name the cells in the testes that nourish the sperms. (CBSE 2016)

Ans: Sertoli cells nourish the developing sperms in the seminiferous tubules.

Q3. Mention the role of Leydig cells. (CBSE 2017)

Ans: Leydig cells (Interstitial cells) secrete androgens, mainly testosterone, which regulate the

development of male secondary sexual characters and spermatogenesis.

Q4. Draw a labeled diagram of a human sperm. (CBSE 2018)

Ans: [Diagram of sperm should be drawn showing head, midpiece, and tail with labels like nucleus,

acrosome, mitochondria, etc.]

Q5. State the functions of the following: (a) Epididymis (b) Vas deferens (CBSE 2019)

Ans: (a) Epididymis: Stores sperm and facilitates their maturation.

(b) Vas deferens: Transports mature sperms from epididymis to urethra.

Q6. What is the role of seminal vesicles and prostate gland in human males? (CBSE 2020)

Ans: Seminal vesicles secrete a fluid rich in fructose that provides energy to sperms. Prostate gland

secretes a slightly alkaline fluid that helps in sperm motility and viability.

Q7. Differentiate between seminiferous tubules and interstitial spaces. (CBSE 2021)

Ans: Seminiferous tubules are the sites for spermatogenesis containing germ cells and Sertoli cells,

while interstitial spaces are areas between tubules containing Leydig cells that secrete testosterone.
Q8. What is semen? Write its composition. (CBSE 2022)

Ans: Semen is a viscous fluid composed of sperms and secretions from seminal vesicles, prostate

gland, and bulbourethral glands. It nourishes and provides medium for the movement of sperms.

Q9. Name and describe the structure of the male copulatory organ. (CBSE 2023)

Ans: The male copulatory organ is the penis. It is cylindrical, composed of three columns of erectile

tissue, and ends in a swollen tip called the glans penis. It helps in transferring sperms into the

female reproductive tract.

Q10. Write the names of the accessory glands of male reproductive system and mention their

functions. (CBSE 2024)

Ans: Accessory glands include seminal vesicles, prostate gland, and bulbourethral glands. They

acidity of the urethra.
