Good day everyone. Today, I will discuss the topic Organizational Behavior or OB.
Organizational Behavior is basically the study of human behavior, attitudes, and performance
inside an organization.
It draws concepts from psychology, sociology, political science, and anthropology, kaya very
broad ang approach niya.
The main goal of OB is to explain, to predict, and to control behavior.
1. Explain – bakit ganito umasta ang empleyado?
2. Predict – ano ang possible na magiging behavior niya in certain situations?
Benefits of Studying OB
Development of People Skills.
Dalawa ‘yan:
1. Skill in doing the work – technical skills or expertise
2. Skill in relating with people – communication, teamwork, at interpersonal relationships
Personal Growth.
Kapag naiintindihan mo ang sarili mo, your strengths and weaknesses, mas nagiging competitive ka
sa workplace. This relates to intrapersonal thinking—yung ability na kilalanin ang sarili.
Enhancement of Organizational and Individual Effectiveness.
When people make the right decisions, mas nagiging effective ang organization.
Sharpening of Common Sense.
OB helps improve our judgment, especially in handling people and situations.
Key Aspects of Human Behavior in Organizations (HBO)
1. Individual Differences
Each person has a unique personality, attitude, motivation, and skill set.
ibang work styles.
2. Group Dynamics
This includes teamwork, communication styles (assertive, passive, aggressive), and conflict
resolution.
Kapag healthy ang group dynamics, mas smooth ang collaboration.
3. Organizational Culture
4. Leadership and Motivation
Leaders set direction, inspire, and influence people.
If leaders are effective, employees feel motivated and engaged.
5. Communication
Clear communication helps avoid conflict, builds trust, and supports problem-solving.
Effectiveness vs. Efficiency
Effectiveness – “Doing the right thing.”
• Helps align individual actions to organizational goals
• Encourages innovation
• Improves decision-making
Efficiency – “Doing things right.”
• Minimizes waste of time and resources
• Reduces errors and conflict
• Ensures optimal performance
Organizational Environment
The organizational environment refers to all the forces outside and inside the organization that
influence how it operates.
1. Internal Environment
• Employee Behavior
How employees act—motivated ba sila? cooperative? productive?
Their attitudes greatly affect performance.
• Organizational Culture
Ito yung shared beliefs, values, and norms.
• Mission
The mission explains why the organization exists.
It guides decisions, goals, and strategies.
• Leadership Style
Their style affects employee motivation and direction.
In summary:
Internal factors = controllable.
Meaning, kaya itong baguhin, i-improve, or i-realign ng organization.
These reveal the organization’s strengths and weaknesses.
2. External Environment
Ito naman ang mga bagay na nasa labas but still affect the organization:
• Customers
Their preferences and satisfaction determine the success of the company.
• Public Opinion
Reputation matters. Negative public image affects trust.
• Economy
Economic conditions affect budgets, hiring, and operations.
• Government Regulations
Organizations must follow laws, policies, and guidelines.
• Competition
Kailangan maging aware sa competitors to stay relevant and innovative.
External factors = uncontrollable pero dapat laging i-monitor.
These represent opportunities and threats.
Factors Affecting the Organizational Environment
Organizational Factors – information and relationships inside the organization. These include
information flow, reporting relationships, and internal systems.
It shapes how people work and interact.
Moral Factors – motivations and incentives that influence behavior. These are incentives, values,
and ethical considerations that drive human behavior. Kapag mataas ang moral values, mas
responsible and self-disciplined ang employees.
Psychological Factors – perception, attitude, and mindset of individuals. These come from an
individual’s perception, mindset, beliefs, and attitudes. Employees act based on how they interpret
situations, not just based on reality.
Environmental Factors – the PESTEL factors:
These are external conditions that influence the organization:
• Political – policies, government stability, political climate
• Economic – inflation, interest rates, employment levels
• Social – lifestyle trends, culture, demographics
• Technological – innovations, automation, digitalization
• Ecological – environmental issues, sustainability requirements
• Legal – laws, rules, and regulations
