PROJECT CONTEXT
Barbershops still rely on old methods (magazines,
verbal descriptions).
Customers struggle to visualize hairstyles, leading
to dissatisfaction.
AR overlays digital hairstyles on a user’s real-time
image.
Reduces regret and boosts confidence in styling
choices.
4
PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION
This research aims to develop and implement an Augmented
Reality (AR)-enabled hairstyle visualization system specifically
designed for Etivac Barbers, a traditional barbershop in Tanza,
Cavite, Philippines, to address the prevalent issue of customer
dissatisfaction caused by the limitations of conventional hairstyle
selection methods.

REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE AND SYSTEMS
AI/AR in Beauty: Studies show AI and AR help recommend hairstyles (Ibrahem & Abdulazeez, 2025)
and predict beauty preferences (Weerasinghe & Vidanagama, 2020).
AR’s Impact: Javornik et al. (2022) found AR filters affect self-esteem, and tech must balance
innovation and mental well-being.
Digital Salon Tools: Beautyhare (Blancaflor et al., 2024) and similar systems help salons manage
bookings and operations efficiently.
Global AR Apps: ModiFace, Perfect Corp., and L'Oréal use AR for virtual try-ons, boosting customer
confidence worldwide.

REVIEW OF RELATED
LITERATURE AND SYSTEMS
Cultural Sensitivity: Tenorio (2023) warns AI beauty filters may push
unrealistic, Westernized standards in the Philippines.
Simple but Effective: Local apps like BeautyBuddy help small salons
with bookings and management, that is practical for PH market
needs.

SYNTHESIS
Recent studies show that AR and AI technologies are transforming the beauty
and grooming industry by providing personalized, interactive experiences
that help customers make better decisions. AR allows users to virtually try
hairstyles, while AI analyzes facial features to recommend suitable looks.
Digital booking systems also improve efficiency for businesses. BarberVision
combines these technologies into one solution, which is offering AR hairstyle
simulation, online booking, barber profiles, and loyalty rewards. By
integrating these features, BarberVision addresses the shortcomings of
traditional barbershop methods and creates a more satisfying, modern
experience for both customers and barbers.

CONCLUSION
The beauty industry is evolving with AI and AR, improving
personalization and efficiency worldwide. While global tech
like ModiFace offers virtual try-ons, Philippine solutions
like BeautyBuddy focus on affordable, culturally-aware
tools. Success requires balancing innovation with local
adaptation, that tech must be advanced and inclusive.
