What Are Democratic Rights?
• Democratic rights are basic rights written in the Constitution that protect people’s
freedom and ensure equality for all citizens.
• Written in the Constitution – These rights are fixed in law, so even the government must
follow them.
• Protected by courts – If someone is treated unfairly, they can go to court for justice.
• Ensure freedom and equality – People can speak freely and are treated the same before
law.
• Prevent misuse of power – Authorities cannot arrest or punish people without reason.
• Help citizens live with dignity – Everyone’s life, respect, and basic freedoms are
protected.
• Have you ever spoken up about an unfair school rule?
Right to Equality – Youth Example
• Equality before law – Everyone is treated the same by law.
• No discrimination – No unfair treatment based on caste, religion,
gender, or wealth.
