Iot, VI and AI
IoT (Internet of Things)
Definition: IoT is a network of interconnected devices that collect and exchange data using
the internet. These devices can sense the environment, process information, and sometimes
act automatically.
Components:
1. Sensors/Actuators – detect changes or perform actions.
2. Connectivity – Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 5G, or other networks.
3. Data Processing – cloud servers or local systems analyze the data.
4. User Interface – apps or dashboards for monitoring/control.
Applications:
o Smart Homes: Thermostats, lighting, security cameras.
o Healthcare: Wearable devices for health monitoring.
o Industrial IoT: Machinery monitoring and predictive maintenance.
Key Point: IoT makes devices “smart” by enabling them to communicate and respond
intelligently.
2. AR/VR (Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality)
Augmented Reality (AR): Adds digital elements to the real-world environment.
o Example Use Cases:
Gaming: Pokémon Go overlays Pokémon on real surroundings.
Retail: IKEA app lets you see furniture in your home before buying.
Education: Interactive textbooks or anatomy visualization.
Virtual Reality (VR): Creates a fully immersive digital environment that replaces the real
world.
o Example Use Cases:
Gaming: VR headsets create a 360° gaming world.
Training: Pilots, surgeons, and soldiers use VR simulations.
Virtual Tours: Museums, travel destinations.
Key Differences:
o AR = real world + digital overlay
o VR = completely digital world
3. AI (Artificial Intelligence)
Definition: AI is the simulation of human intelligence in computers and machines, enabling
them to perform tasks that normally require human thinking.
Subfields:
1. Machine Learning (ML): Machines learn from data to improve performance.
2. Natural Language Processing (NLP): Understanding and generating human language
(e.g., chatbots).
3. Computer Vision: Recognizing objects, faces, and patterns from images/videos.
4. Robotics: AI-powered robots perform complex tasks autonomously.
Applications:
o Self-driving cars (Tesla)
o Virtual assistants (Siri, Alexa)
o Recommendation systems (Netflix, YouTube, Amazon)
o Fraud detection in banking
Key Point: AI helps machines “think” and make decisions similar to humans, often faster and
more accurately.
