So our beloved India is a huge country which has Himalayas in the north, Bay of Bengal in

the east, sea in the west and land form of Indian Ocean in the south. Almost all the
landscapes of the world are seen here from Plateau to Planes, which not only enhance our
natural beauty but also provide us with the basic resources of our life. One such important
landscape is the mountain ranges present here, which are the origin of the rivers flowing in
the country and also a wall standing firm against the enemies for centuries. Such mountain
ranges which are the storehouse of countless minerals and also the home of biodiversity. So
in today's video discussion, we will know in detail about the Northern, Central, North
Eastern and Southern Mountain Ranges of India. Which are these mountain ranges and in
which states are they spread. Before proceeding further, I would like to tell you that the
importance of this video is very important in terms of the field of Geography of GS Paper
One of UPSC Prelims. In this video, friends, located in North India Before knowing the
Mounted Range, we have to know the classification of the Himalaya Mountain Range

because most of the mountain ranges present in North India are part of this. According to
the Continent Continent Conversion Theory, the formation of the Himalayas is classified into
five categories. Trans Himalaya or Tibetan Himalaya, Greater or

Great Himalaya, Middle or Lesser Himalaya, Outer Himalaya or Shiva Lekh and Purvanchal or

Eastern Himalaya. We have already mentioned the mountain ranges coming in Purvanchal in
our previous video. Again, its link

you will find it in the i button. You will also find its link in the description. Talking about Trans
Himalaya, it is called the top most of the Himalayas, which is located just above the Great
Himalaya Range. Most of the part of the Himalaya Range is seen in Tibet. That is why it is
also called Tibetan Himalaya. This mountain range is present at an elevation of 3000 m from
the sea level. The ascension of this range is seen from the East to West direction and up to
about 1000 km. Its average height is 100 km on the Eastern and

Western extremities. The width is 40 km and the central part is 225 km. Mountain ranges
like Karakoram, Ladakh, Dantewada and Kailash are part of the Himalayas. The Great
Himalayas are followed by the Trans Himalayas. The total length of this range is around 8000
m. It includes peaks like Nanga Parbat, Annapurna, Mount Everest and Kanchenjunga. Many
glaciers are also present here. Gangotri Glacier and Sentinel Glacier are quite important.
Apart from all these, many important passages are also seen in the Greater Himalayas. For
example, Joshila and Zojila in Jammu and Kashmir and Thangal Lipulekh in Himachal
Pradesh. Niti Pass and Nathula and Jilepula in Sikkim. Lesser Himalayas. The middle section
of the mountain system is called Lesser Himalayas. It is called the Himalayas or Middle
Himalayas. For example, Pir Panjal in Jammu and Kashmir, Dhauladhar in Himachal Pradesh,
Mussoorie and Nag Tibba in Uttarakhand and Mahabharata in Nepal. Shivalik Range Friends,
House of Himalayas The most important range is called Shivalik or Outer Himalayas which
varies from 600 to 1500 m between the Great Plains and the Lesser Himalayas. It extends
from the West to North West to the Kotwar Plateau to the Brahmaputra Range. Shivalik
ranges are known by different names in different areas. For example, Jammu Hills in Jammu,
Dudhwa Range in Uttarakhand, Dakshin Mari Abor and Mishmi in Arunachal Pradesh. The
same range is also known as Chidiyaghar Hills in Nepal. So, let us now talk about the
important mountain ranges of North India one by one. Karakoram Rangers are friends. There
is an important mountain range in the Karakoram range. There is an important peak in
Mount Godnostan which is also known as Ketu which is the second highest peak in the
world. The height of Ketu is 8611 m i.e. 28251 feet. Apart from this, K3, K4 and K5 peaks are
also located in the Karakoram range. The Red Glacier, which is more than 8000 m high, is
present in this range. Many major glaciers are also present in this range. It is one of the
longest glaciers outside the Pal. One of these glaciers is located in the eastern Karakoram
range. Another glacier is located a little to the left of it. It is also known as the glacier. It is
situated in Gilgit Baltistan of the UK. Below the Ladakh range, i.e., towards the south, the
Ladakh range is present. It is located in the north and further it merges into the Kailash
Range in Tibet. The Ladakh range is located between the Karakoram and Jones Mountain
ranges. It is extended from the Indus River in the north to the Shok River in the south. After
centering the Indus River in India at a place named Ch, it has to move forward slowly
between the Karakoram Range and the Ladakh Range. During this, it passes very close to the
Ladakh Range. Near the Line of Actual Control, i.e. near the Indus River Link, taking a sharp
southwest direction, it enters the Ladakh Range. After crossing this, it has to move ahead
flowing between Ladakh and the range. Apart from the Indus River, many of its major
tributaries flow in this mountain range. The Ladakh range is located near the Indus River in
Ladakh, but the north and the Himalayas are located in it. Nanga Parbat is located in this
range itself, which is a significant peak. The height of Nanga Parbat is 816 m. The Indus range
divides Ladakh from the Kashmir lowland and the Chenab River.

It means that it acts as a border between Ladakh area and Jammu and Kashmir. Many rivers
are original in various parts of this mountain range and flow from north part and meet Indus
river. These include Harle-Rover river and Singho river. It is located in Kashmir and it is the
longest and most significant range. Veer Punjab range is located between Pir Panjal range of
Kashmir and is the part of Himalaya and its biggest range. If there is a flood here between Pir
Panjal and Dhauladhar range, then Chenab river also flows in parallel north face direction of
Pir Panjal range and crosses this range at a place named Kishtwar, which further enters
Pakistan. Let us tell you that Jawahar tunnel is also known as Banihal tunnel. It is built in
Banihal pass of Pir Panjal mountain range, while Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla railway link
The 11.2 km long Pir Panjal tunnel built in Banihalgarh area of USBRL is present in this
mountain range. Dhola Dhar range is situated in the same mountain range. Friends,
Dhauladhar range is situated to the south east of Pir Panjal range. The range is located in
Himachal Pradesh and it is also a part of Lesser Himalayas. It starts from Dalhousie in the
North West corner and extends till the Bang of Beas River in Kullu district of Himachal
Pradesh. The peak named Hanuman ji's Tibba is the highest mountain peak located in Kangra
district of Himachal Pradesh. Friends, after Rangers, when we move towards Uttarakhand,
we get to see three important ranges here. The first range is Nak Tibba Range. Nak Tibba is
one of the three principal rangers of Lesser Himalayas. It is a branch of Great Himalayas after
Pir Panjal and Dhauladhar. The large Nak range is located in the Bugyal region of Garhwal
division of Uttarakhand. This land is 16 km from Door Containment and 57 km from
Mussoorie. This mountain is 148 km away from Tehri. It is also considered to be the abode of
the God of Snakes, i.e. the Naag Devta. The local word Dibba means hill or peak. This is the
reason why the hill is called Naag Tibba. The height of the hill is about 300025 m and from
here you can see the clear view of Bandar Puch Peak, Gangotri Group of Mountains,
Kedarnath Peak. This is the reason why a large number of adventure lovers come here for
trekking. This important range is seen in Uttarakhand. This Mussoorie range is famous as the
Queen of Hills. It is one of the most popular hill stations of the country. A large number of
tourists reach here every year. It is said that in 1825, a British named Captain Frederick
Young climbed the hill from Dunwali and discovered this peak from where wonderful views
and planet environment can be enjoyed. After this, he built the first century of Mussoorie
here in 1827. The height of Mussoorie Around 2005 m i.e. 6578 m Mussoorie range is a part
of Garhwal Himalaya Friends, there are many major mountains of India in Garhwal Himalaya
