Introduction
Nursing informatics allows nurses to deliver evidence-based and patient care, improve
human health and advanced medical research. Advanced practice registered nurses are
highly trained professionals that can tackle complex reviews of patients. They assess
symptoms and builds a picture of patients’ conditions, treat minor health problems, for
instance patients presenting with long term health conditions (McGonigle & Mastrian,
2021). A nurse informatics will measure and analyse how specific parts of the
organisations, with a focus on the resulting patient outcome.
An advanced practice registered nurse will utilise Electronic Health Records to
document patient information, track health histories and plan and monitor treatment plans.
This improves coordination and continuity of care among healthcare provides by ensuring
accurate and comprehensive data entry. An Advanced practice registered nurse also can
leverage informatics tools which offer clinical decision support, such as reminders and
guidelines. The importance of this systems is to assist in evidence-based decision-making,
reducing medical errors and enhance patient safety.
Another role of advanced practice registered nurse is to utilise telehealth technologies
and remote monitoring devices to deliver healthcare services to people with limited access
to care. This healthcare services can be through video consultation, online portals where
the nurses can remotely assess the patients, provide education, monitor chronic conditions
and offer follow up condition. They can also help prevent harmful treatment and
prescription errors through informatics, this strategy helps by standardizing the tracking of
diagnostics information, and the administration of prescribed drugs. This involves the use
of digital systems to report and analyse diagnoses.

Advanced practice registered nurses can also contribute to the analysis of health data
collected through informatics systems. They can extract valuable insights from large
datasets and conduct research to improve patient outcomes and enhance population health
initiatives. They can also use informatics tools to provide patients with access to reliable
health information. Patient portals and mobile health applications can enable advanced
practice registered nurses to engage patients in their care by managing patient information,
monitor and measure patient progress, support the delivery of care and promote literacy
and encourage adherence to treatment plans.
The nurses can also improve accuracy for health insurance administration through
informatics. This can ensure proper compensation for medical treatments where medical
professionals must document their work in a specific manner. This helps in improving the
standardization of patient information making it easier to streamline practices. Informatics
also enables the advanced nurses to improve on decision making efficiency by providing
the required and valid information for the decision-making process (Curioso et al., 2021).
Can also reduce time needed to transfer information to the healthcare team and decisions
are made timely with maximum efficiency.
Nurses can also maintain continuity of care as they can use informatics that provides
quick access of physicians to the result of diagnostics and laboratory diagnostics and
laboratory tests. Informatics can also improve inter-organizational communication by
having accurate communication and timely transmission of information. For example,
nurses can fill out about a broken equipment and the equipment authority sees it in the
system and comes to fix it. Nurses can also use informatics to provide streamlined
information and support systems to patients.

Nursing informatics also allows advanced nurses to take more action on sick patients
in a timely manner. They can do this by tracking vital signs and other medical information,
they can also make informed decisions on which treatment to best administer to the
patients and who to call for help. Informatics can also be used by the nurses to increase
integrity of information and ensure uniformity of information; this information can be
used for treatment and research.
Nursing informatics can also be used by advanced nurses to monitor other physicians
or nurses in the medical setting. This ensures that the right healthcare is given to the right
patients at the right time without any biasness and lack thereof of anything and track
whether or not they are meeting their professional goals. Also, through patients’ data entry
forms that physicians must complete in order to gain access to vital information from
patients.
Advanced practice registered nurses can also use the nursing informatics to keep track
of the electronic drug cabinets that store medication with controlled dispensing and the
track how the medication is distributed. They can also keep track of surgical equipment
and when they are supposed to be in use or when they are in use. In addition, they can use
informatics in telemedicine which provides health information that is collected remotely
from medical devices or personal mobile devices.
The nurses can also use informatics to monitor electronic incident reports, this allows
healthcare providers who are involved in safety events to voluntarily report and thus
enabling the advanced nurses to offer their guidelines and to give help on what they know
to those caregivers. All in all, nursing informatics has had a huge impact on patient care
through several different areas of medicine. Nursing informatics changing the way care is
delivered to patients, providers can improve patients care by making it easier for them to
5
understand and act on information. This way the nurses can create the best possible care
for patients.
Advanced practice registered nurses can also increase data and documentation
accessibility so that the data can be easily accessible all the time of need for clinical,
administrations and organizational purposes. They can also create a precise and secure
archive of documents of all information. This helps the nurses to get access to any
information about medical purposes which could help them in giving healthcare
appropriately, which can be used for treatment or research and planning.
Informatics can also enable an advanced nurse to be able to offer virtual training and
facilitate the training process, for example the exchange of patients’ files and information
between different health centres. They can also participate in quality improvement projects
by leveraging informatics tools, they can track and analyse clinical outcomes, identify
areas for improvement and implement evidence-based interventions to enhance the quality
and efficiency of healthcare delivery, informatics improves interprofessional collaboration
where the advanced nurses can collaborate with other healthcare nurses and professionals
to design and implement informatics systems that address the unique needs of their
practice settings which improves communication and patient outcome.
