5 Information on Planning--In and Installing the Product
Since the product when used normally forms part of larger systems or plants these instructions are intended
to be a guide to integrating the product into its environment safely.
Here special attention should be paid to the following points:
. Note
Even when a higher degree of safety--related reliability has been achieved in the
planning--in of an automation system device (for example, by a multichannel ar-
rangement) it is still indispensible that the instructions contained in this manual are
followed precisely since incorrect treatment may lead to disabling of precautions
taken to prevent dangerous process states or may even create additional sources
of danger.
Caution
! - Connecting and signal leads and cables must be installed in such a way that
inductive and capacitive interference does not result in any impairment of
automation functions.
- Automation systems devices and equipment and their operating controls must
be installed so that they have adequate protection against be operated
accidentally.
- To prevent breaks in conductors or cables on the signal side leading to
undefined states in the automation device or equipment, the appropriate safety
precautions must be taken in the interfacing, on both the hardware and the
software side.

Safety and ESD Information
The following information on the installation and putting into service of the product must be complied with,
depending on the individual case of application:
Warning
! - The safety instructions and accident prevention regulations applying to a
particular case must be complied with.
- Built--in devices and equipment intended for housings or cabinets may only be
used and operated when actually built in, and desktop and portable devices
when their cases or housings are closed.
- Where devices or equipment are permanently connected to the power supply
(stationary equipment or systems) without an all--pole mains disconnector and /
or fuses, then a mains connector or a fuse must be fitted into the building
wiring; the equipment must also be connected to a protective grounding
conductor.
- In the case of equipment or systems which have a permanently connected or
non--removable connecting cable and do not have an all--pole mains
disconnector, then the grounded grounding--type socket outlet for the
equipment must be located close to the equipment and be easily accessible.
- In the case of devices or equipment which are run on mains voltage, you should
check before putting them into service whether the selected nominal voltage
range matches the local mains voltage.
- With a 24 V supply you should make sure that the extra--low voltage is safely
isolated electrically. Any power supply units used must have been manufactured
in accordance with IEC 60364--4--41 or HD 384.04.41 (DIN VDE 0100--410 /
VDE 0100 Part 410) .
- Fluctuations in the mains voltage or deviations from the rated value must not be
greater than the tolerance limits quoted in the technical data, otherwise function
dropouts and hazardous states in the electrical modules or equipment cannot
be excluded.
- Precautionary measures must be taken that after voltage dips or outages an
interrupted can be resumed properly. Nor should any hazardous operating
states occur, even briefly. If necessary, there should be a forced emergency
stop.
- Emergency stop devices as per EN 60204 / IEC 60204 (DIN EN60204 /
VDE 0113) must remain effective under all operating modes of the automation
equipment. Deactivating the emergency stop device must not result in any
non--controlled or undefined restart.

6 Active and Passive Errors in an Automation Device
- Depending on the job assigned to an electronic automation device both active and passive errors
can be dangerous errors. With an actuator control device (such as a press controller) as a rule it
is the active error which is dangerous as it leads to an unauthorized activation of the actuator. On
the other hand, with a signalling function (danger signalling device) a passive error may lead to sig-
nalling of a dangerous command--blocking state being prevented.
- This distinction in the possible faults and their job--dependent classification into dangerous and
non--dangerous is of importance in the consideration of all safety aspects of the supplied product
and to the interaction of this product with the process which is to be controlled.
Warning
! In all places where faults occurring in the automation equipment could cause major
damage to property and even personal injury -- in other words, be dangerous errors
-- safety--oriented and fail--safe systems must be used which have been type--
tested by TÜV or where additional external precautions have been taken or supple-
mentary devices provided which will ensure or force a safe operating state even in
the event of a fault (for example, independent limit monitors, mechanical interlocks,
and so on).

7 Procedure during Routine and Corrective Maintenance
If measurement or testing work needs to be carried out on a live device, then the stipulations and working
procedure instructions of the VBG 4.0 accident prevention regulations must be observed, particulary
Section 8 ”Permissible Deviations when Working On Live Parts”. Suitable electrical tools must be used.
Warning
! - Automation devices or equipment may only be repaired by Siemens customer
service department or by repairs agents authorized by Siemens. When
replacing parts or components, only use parts included in the spare parts lists in
this manual. Unauthorized opening of the device and incorrect repairs could
result in death or serious physical injury as well as considerable damage to
property.
- Before you open the device, always pull out the mains plug or disconnector
using the disconnector.
- If you change a fuse, only use the types specified in the technical data or in the
introductory maintenance instructions forming part of this documentation.
- Do not throw batteries into the fire nor solder onto the body of the battery as
there is the risk of explosion (maximum temperature 100 °C). Do not open or
recharge lithium batteries or batteries containing mercury, and if you are
replacing them, use only the same type!
- Never dispose of batteries or storage batteries except as special waste.
- When using monitors:
Unauthorized tampering, particularly changing the high voltage or fitting another
type of picture tube. can lead to emitted x--ray radiation levels increasing. A
monitor modified in this way no longer corresponds to the type approved and
must not be operated.

8 Electrostatically Endangered Modules
8.1 What does ESD mean?
Virtually all SIMATIC--S5 / TELEPERM XP modules are made up of highly--integrated modules or compo-
nents which use MOS technology. By their physical nature these electronic components are very sensitive to
overvoltages and thus also to electrostatic discharge:
The usual international abbreviation for electrostatically endangered modules or components is
”ESD” (Electrostatic Sensitive Device)
The following symbol found on cabinets, subracks, packaging and the like indicates that electrostatically en-
dangered components are being used and that such components are sensitive to being touched:
ESDs can be destroyed by voltages and energies which lie far below the limits of human perception. Such
voltages will even be found when a component or a module is touched by a person who has not discharged
his static charge. Components exposed to such overvoltages cannot as a rule be immediately identified as
faulty as it may be that faulty behaviour only occurs after a lengthy period in service.
In order to detect an electrostatic discharge
- by touch, 3500 volts are necessary
- by ear, 4500 volts
- by sight, at least 5000 volts
But just a fraction of this voltage can already damage or even destroy electronic components.
Components which have been damaged, overstressed or weakend by static discharge can exhibit temporary
defects via changes in typical performance data when there are for example
- Temperature changes
- Surges
- Vibration
- Changes of load
Only the consistent employment of protective devices and the responsible observance of handling rules will
ensure effective prevention of functional faults and failures of ESD modules.
8.2 When does static charging occur?
You can never be entirely certain that you yourself or the materials or tools you are using are not carrying an
electrostatic charge.
Minor charges of up to 100 V are quite normal, but they can still increase very rapidly to 35 000 V!

Safety and ESD Information
Some examples:
- Walking on carpet up to 35 000 V
- Walking on a plastic floor up to 12 000 V
- Sitting in an upholstered chair up to 18 000 V
- Plastic desoldering device up to 8 000 V
- Plastic coffee cup up to 5 000 V
- Plastic envelopes up to 5 000 V
- Books or magazines with plasting binding up to 8 000 V
8.3 Important protective measures against static charging
- Most plastics can hold very high static charges and should therefore always be kept well away from
the endangered components!
- When handling electrostatically endangered components, you must make sure that you yourself,
the workplace and the packaging are all well grounded!
8.4 Treatment and handling of ESD modules
- As a fundamental rule electronic modules should only be touched when this is absolutely unavoid-
able due to the work to be done on them. If you do pick up printed circuit boards never hold them
so that you touch chip pins or printed conductors.
- Components may only be touched when
D you are grounded the whole time via an ESD armband
D you are wearing ESD shoes or ESD shoe grounding strips and are standing on an ESD floor.
- Before you touch an electronic module you must discharge the static charge from your own body.
The simplest way of doing this is to touch a conducting and grounded object (for example, bright
metal parts of a switchgear cabinet, water pipes, etc.).
- Modules must not be brought into contact with statically chargeable and high--insulating materials
such as plastic foil. insulating tabletops, synthetic fibre clothing, and so on.
- Modules may only be placed on conducting surfaces (table with ESD mat, conductive ESD mate-
rial, ESD packing bag, ESD transportation container).
- Keep modules well away from video terminals, monitors and television (do not bring any closer to
the screen than 10 cm).
The following diagrams present the ESD protective measures again in a clear graphic form.

8.5 Measuring and Modifying ESD Modules
- Measurements may only be made on the modules when
D the measuring instrument is grounded (for example, via protective conductor)
D before measuring with a zero--potential measuring device, the measuring head is briefly
discharged (for example, by touching the bright metal parts of the control unit casing).
- When soldering, only a grounded soldering iron may be used.
8.6 Shipping ESD Modules
Modules and components must always be stored or shipped in conductive packaging (for example, metal-
lized plastic boxes, metal cans).
If packaging is not conductive, then before being packed modules must be wrapped in conductive material.
For example, conductive foam rubber, ESD bags, household aluminium foil or paper can be used (under no
circumstances plastic bags or sheeting).
If modules have a built--in battery make sure that the conductive packaging of the battery terminals is not
touched or shorted. If necessary, first cover the terminals with insulating tape or material.
