2Bp.01 Know that humans need to manage diet, maintain hygiene and move regularly to be healthy.
Lesson focus / success criteria
Understanding a balanced diet.
Learners can identify food groups and plan a healthy, balanced meal.
Prior knowledge / Previous learning
Learners have discussed different types of food and are familiar with everyday meals eaten at home.

REFLECTION
STRENGTHS The introductory question by the teacher grabbed the learners’ attention and
participation. This aspect made it easy for the teacher to then transition from the introduction to
imparting knowledge of the main concept. Their prior knowledge proved to be a solid base in their
understanding of the lesson focus of understanding the balanced diet. Media was used in the form of
clear food charts and the learners proved to have benefited from the media. This led the lesson to
achieve a fair portion of the set objectives.
WEAKNESSES
The teacher had originally planned to use videos of food (Dr Bionics) on YouTube, however – the
network reception could not make it possible, making the teacher to resort to other measures.
WAY FORWARD
For similar scenarios in future, it is imperative for the teacher to test his intended platforms or
resources to avoid set backs that could probably dent the pursuit of objectives.

Lesson focus / success criteria
The importance of exercise.
Learners can identify different types of exercise and explain why exercise helps keep the body healthy.

REFLECTION
STRENGTHS
A simple exercise was done and the learners gave feedback on how they physically felt. Learners
were also able to list types of physical activities. The learners enjoyed the task to draw themselves
executing any exercise of their choice. Emphasis on clear drawings was given by the teacher and the
work was done beyond expectation. The teacher also noted that the teacher then used the following
sport session to reinforce this understanding, after people had returned from the marathon activity.
WEAKNESSES
Even though most learners had managed to draw themselves executing different physical activities,
the main challenge noted was that there was a concerning number failing to write the correct spellings
of the physical activities.
WAY FORWARD
The teacher had a class practice with the learners, creating a word bank with the Key vocabulary from
the lesson for further reference and practice. The teacher will make staggered follow ups to check on
the mastery of these words.

Learners can identify good hygiene practices and explain how hygiene helps to keep the body healthy.

REFLECTION
STRENGTHS
The timing of the lesson by the teacher became decisive in the direction and progression of the lesson.
The lesson was introduced after the bathroom break, a point when all the learners were just coming
from washing their hands. The teacher asked a leading question of why they wash their hands.
Learners were firstly puzzled by the question that seemed rhetoric but later on smoothly followed the
transition into the lesson’s focus. When learners sang the hygienic song, a reinforcement of
knowledge was achieved. The objectives of the weeks were impressively reaped.
WEAKNESSES
Some hygienic activities were not done practically. Thereby, measurement of knowledge grasping
could not be; or could only be theoretically measured.
WAY FORWARD
The imperativeness of broadening such concepts was noted and the teacher has deemed it necessary to
plan a practical reinforcement of this content by engaging learners in practical activities like brushing
or combing the hair and brushing of teeth so that learners know how to apply this knowledge.
