Class 10 Mathematics Practice Paper

Unit: Trigonometry & Its Applications

Time: 90 Minutes | Max Marks: 40

Section A: Very Short Answer Type (1 Mark Each)

• If sin θ = cos θ, find the value of θ (where 0° ≤ θ ≤ 90°).

• Evaluate: sin²30° + cos²30°.

• If tan A = 4/3, find the value of sin A.

• The shadow of a tower is equal to its height. Find the angle of elevation of the sun.

• If k + 1 = sec²θ (1 + sin θ)(1 − sin θ), find the value of k.

Section B: Short Answer Type – I (2 Marks Each)

• If 3 cot A = 4, check whether (1 − tan²A)/(1 + tan²A) = cos²A − sin²A.

• Evaluate: (5 cos²60° + 4 sec²30° − tan²45°)/(sin²30° + cos²30°).

• Find the value of θ if 2 sin 2θ = √3.

• A ladder 15 m long just reaches the top of a vertical wall. If the ladder makes an angle of
60° with the wall, find the height of the wall.

Section C: Short Answer Type – II (3 Marks Each)

• Prove the identity: √((1 + sin A)/(1 − sin A)) = sec A + tan A.

• If tan(A + B) = √3 and tan(A − B) = 1/√3; 0° < A + B ≤ 90°; A > B, find A and B.

• Prove that: (cos A)/(1 + sin A) + (1 + sin A)/cos A = 2 sec A.

• An observer 1.5 m tall is 28.5 m away from a chimney. The angle of elevation of the top of
the chimney from her eyes is 45°. What is the height of the chimney?
Section D: Long Answer Type (5 Marks Each)
• Prove the identity: (tan θ)/(1 − cot θ) + (1 − cot θ)/tan θ = 1 + sec θ csc θ.

• As observed from the top of a 75 m high lighthouse from the sea-level, the angles of
depression of two ships are 30° and 45°. If one ship is exactly behind the other on the same
side of the lighthouse, find the distance between the two ships.

• From a point on the ground, the angles of elevation of the bottom and the top of a
transmission tower fixed at the top of a 20 m high building are 45° and 60° respectively.
Find the height of the tower.

Section E: Case Study Based Question (4 Marks)

The Kite Festival:
A student is flying a kite at a height of 60 m above the ground. The string attached to the
kite is temporarily tied to a point on the ground. The inclination of the string with the
ground is 60°.

(i) Find the length of the string, assuming that there is no slack in the string. (2 Marks)
(ii) If the angle of inclination decreases to 30° while keeping the kite at the same height,
what will be the new length of the string? (2 Marks)
