BASEBALL

What is It?
The term “baseball” comes from the English language and is a collective
sport played with a ball and a bat, by two teams of 9 players. It is one of
the most popular sports in the United States, played by men and women.
How to play?
Baseball is played by two teams of 9 players each, on an outdoor field and
has 4 bases. A baseball game has 9 innings (games) with no set time.
The teams alternately attack (bat) and (pitch) defend and the players
change their positions during the game.
The pitcher throws the ball, while the batter of the opposing team is
positioned to hit it with the bat, and behind him is a catcher from the same
team as the pitcher.
If the batter hits the ball, he must run around the four bases on the field.
Reaching all four bases, the team wins a point. The most famous score in
baseball is the home run, which occurs when the batter throws the ball out
of the stadium.
The visiting team is the first to attack, each player will hit the ball with the
bat and run to the bases. The home team starts by defending, one player
(the pitcher) will throw the ball, and the other 8 players will position
themselves to catch the ball, in case the opposing team's player manages
to hit the ball.
Points are scored by the trajectory covered by the players. Therefore, the
team that completes the most runs during the match wins.

Origins
The origin of baseball is somewhat uncertain, as some believe that the
sport was created in England, while others believe that it was created by
Abner Doubleday in New York in 1839.
In fact, in the 18th century in England, a similar game called “rounders”
was already being played. Rounders was probably brought to America by
English immigrants, and was later adapted to the baseball we know today.
Alexander Cartwright also deserves mention for having contributed to the
systematization of baseball rules. The first official game of this sport took
place in New York in 1846.
Rules
• Nine players on each side take turns on the field in each inning.
• The game cannot end in a tie. If that is the final score, extra innings
are played until someone wins.

• To score, the offensive player must run around all four bases after
hitting the ball.

• The defense must put out the batter to prevent this.

Clothing
The uniform has five items: cap, shirt, pants, socks and cleats. Some
items can be added, depending on the player’s position, he must wear
a baseball glove (usually made of leather) and the cap can be
exchanged for a helmet as is the case for catchers.
