Set 1
Problem 1*
The shown statically determinate frame consists of a girder
with span of 8 m and two columns with height of 4 m. Section
S-S at mid-span of girder is a rectangle of depth 60 cm and
width 30 cm, and it is reinforced by using 4 steel bars of
diameter 22 mm each, which are placed at the bottom of
section with a cover distance of 5 cm. The elastic modulus of
steel bars is ES = 2200 t/cm2, and the elastic modulus of
concrete is EC = 220 t/cm2. For RC section S-S, it is required to
solve the following:
a. Determine the straining actions with respect to centroidal
axes
b. Calculate the normal stresses at centroid C and point A
c. Draw the normal stresses distribution

Problem 2
The shown reinforced concrete section is a rectangle of size
60×30 cm, where all dimensions are in cm. This section is
reinforced by 8 steel bars of diameter 18 mm each, which
are placed along sides of section at a cover distance of 3 cm.
The elastic modulus of steel bars is ES = 2200 t/cm2, and the
elastic modulus of concrete is EC = 220 t/cm2. The RC
section is subjected to an eccentric force P = 40 t pushing
into the section, as shown. It is required to solve the following:
a. Determine the straining actions with respect to centroidal axes
b. Calculate the normal stresses at centroid C and point A
c. Draw the normal stresses distribution

80 cm and width of 40 cm. Section S-S at the fixed support is
reinforced by 4 steel bars of diameter 16 mm each, which are

elastic modulus of steel bars is ES = 2200 t/cm2 and the elastic
modulus of concrete is EC = 220 t/cm2. For RC section S-S at
the fixed support, it is required to solve the following:
a. Determine the straining actions with respect to centroidal
axes

elastic modulus of concrete is EC = 220 t/cm2. For RC section
S-S, it is required to solve the following:
a. Determine the straining actions with respect to centroidal
axes

section, as shown. The elastic modulus of steel bars is ES = 2200 t/cm2,
and the elastic modulus of concrete is EC = 220 t/cm2. For the RC
section, it is required to solve the following:

cover distance of 5 cm from the bottom of web. The top RFT
consists of 5 steel bars of diameter 16 mm each, which are
placed at a cover distance of 5 cm from the top of flange. The
elastic modulus of steel bars is ES = 2200 t/cm2, and the elastic
modulus of concrete is EC = 220 t/cm2. For the RC section at
the mid-span, it is required to solve the following:
