Picture Perception and Discussion Test (PP & DT)

Picture Perception
In this test a hazy picture is projected for 30 seconds which has some characters. The candidate is required to
write a story on the picture. The candidate must describe the following points:
1. The hero, his name, age, gender.
2. Number of characters, their age, gender and mood.
3. Past, present and future of the situation i.e. what was going on that led to present situation, what is
going on at present and what will be its outcome.
Note:Thecandidatemustwriteastoryandnotdescribe thepicture.

Group Discussion
The GTO takes the written story and asks everyone to narrate their story. After this he tells candidates to
discuss their story and come on a common story.
Note: The candidate must speak 3 to 4 times.
The discussion should begin in following way:

 Thematic Apperception Test

Rules and Regulations
1. There are twelve stories to be written in TAT for which 11 pictures will be projected and 12th picture
will be a blank slide.
2. The imagination of the 12th stimulus itself reflects the entire personality of the candidate.
3. The things to be observed during 30 seconds of picture projection are as follows:
i. Natural Object or Background – Trees, jungle, farm, plains, mountains, water, sea, rural or
urban sights etc.
Note:Theobjectmaybe increasedordecreasedinthescaleaspertherequirement,
convenienceorperception.
ii. Man-made infrastructure – Roads, bridges, forts, transport, industry, heritage sites, paintings
and buildings.
Note: Scale is flexible here also.
iii. The characters and number of people, their dress, age, gender etc.
4. Prepare a mental blue print by having a rough sketch, hero, effort, direction and the result.
5. The stories written should be gender specific.
6. No central heading is required to be given.
7. Do not have any religion bias or such comments.
8. Stories should be written in a single paragraph containing 15-17 lines.
9. Avoid cuttings, overwriting and leaving blanks.
10. Hero should not be projected as a reward seeker person. However his work can be appreciated, awarded
as per the degree of struggle.
11. The theme in most cases should be happy, healthy and positive.
12. The hero should be projected as a man of vision and variety of imagination.
13. It should be preferred to give a fresh and new name of hero in the story.
14. Every story should have a fresh and new theme.
15. Hero should be identified as a single person.
16. Do not describe the picture but evolve a concept or theme around it.
17. The theme should be realistic, logical and progressive.
18. Do not write any real names of persons, places or institutions and do not use abbreviations.

Group Discussion
Procedure
This is the first task of the GTO series. It is nothing but an informal discussion among friends. It can take
place in a bus, train or room over a cup of tea. It’s not a debate, hence no chairman or moderator is present
and no conclusion is required. You can speak whatever, whenever, whatsoever you want to. You can speak
in English, Hindi or combination of both. You can speak in favour, against or between. You can speak on
one sub point or all three sub points. There will be two rounds of group Discussion. Round one will have
only one topic. Nature of topic depends upon performance of group in round one. This topic will have three
points. Time for discussion is 10-15 minutes.

How to Select a Topic?

You should select topic on which you have prior knowledge.
How to Display High OLQs?
Speak for 30-40 seconds giving 3-4 ideas highlighting knowledge, information, data and facts.

Points to Remember
1. Speak 4-6 times (Active participation) 2. Speak for 30-40 seconds each time. 3.

Group Strength
6 to 10 candidates.

Procedure
GTO will narrate a story using model and story card. This story will have two or three main problems and few
minor problems. This task will be conducted in five stages.
These five stages are as follows:

1. GTO will explain the model.

2. GTO will read the story card.
3. Story cards will be given to the candidates for 5 minutes.
4. Candidates will be given 10 minutes to write individual solution.
5. There will be a group discussion for 10-15 minutes to discuss individual solutions and workout
common group solution. Thereafter, anyone can make presentation.

Priority According to Problem

The problems must be solved according to given priority:

Progressive Group Task
This is the first outdoor taskof GTOseries. It beginsonday 3. It consists ofa series of four obstacles. The
first obstacle is very very very simple, the second obstacle is very very simple, the third one is very simple
and the last obstacle is simple.
In the absence of natural features, rivers, lake, valley etc. in the SSB, they draw two white lines termed as start
line and finish line. The area between start line and finish line is placed out of bounds for candidates and
helping material. In this out of bound area some structures are placed. To help in crossing this area you are
provided with some helping materials like plank, balli, and rope. Every game has its rules.

 Group Obstacle Race
Procedure
You are provided with a load termed as snake. Hence the task is called snake race. This snake is nothing but a
rolled up tank, gunny bag like material. This cannot be reduced in size. It is needed to be kept straight and
parallel to the ground. Each candidate must hold this snake while running between obstacles. However, at the
time of attempting the obstacle minimum 3 candidates must hold the snake. The snake will follow the same
path as followed by candidates.
GTO will take you outdoors and explain each structure. He will not hide anything from you. You must run
fast between the obstacles and use more time attempting the obstacle.

Procedure
Working in group some of you feel that you have ideas but were not able to display the way you wanted.
Therefore, your group will be divided into two half groups. This task has one obstacle and the time limit is
10 minutes. All rules are applicable here except group rule.
Both groups will be given the same obstacle. While one group is working the other group is sent to nearby
waiting area. GTO will take you outdoors and explain every structure. He will not hide anything from you.

Procedure
This task has four topics out of which one is above average, two are average, and one is below average. Each
candidate in rotation will get an opportunity to speak for 3 minutes. You will get 3 minutes for preparation. All
candidates will sit in a row facing podium. GTO will have a set of cards, a watch and a buzzer. Each candidate
will have four topics. You have to select any one out of these four.
To start GTO will give two bells at which first candidate will go forward and pick up a card. After two and a
half minutes GTO will give one warning bell. On completion of 3 minutes, GTO will again give two bells
indicating time up for the first candidate.

How to Select a Topic?

Select a topic on which you are familiar with and have prior knowledge.

1. Always select a topiconwhich you have prior knowledge. 2. Speak loud and

 Individual Obstacles

Procedure
This task contains ten obstacles numbered from 1-10. Its number indicates the point it carries. Total points are
55.
Each candidate in rotation will get an opportunity to do the task. GTO will take you outdoors and explain each
obstacle. He will some of the candidates to demonstrate so that others can see. You must make a plan in your
mind. Path shown by GTO is probably the shortest route and hence recommended. To start the task GTO will
blow a whistle. After 2.30 minutes GTO shouts next candidate to move forward and take stand near the
obstacle he wants to start with. On completion of 3 minutes, GTO will blow another whistle indicating time
up for the first candidate.

Points to Remember
1. You must run fast between the obstacles.
2. In case you get stuck, leave that obstacle and move forward.
3. Once you complete all the obstacles and time still remaining you can do it again and score bonus
points.

 Final Group Task

Procedure
This is the last task of GTO series. It is a finishing touch. It is the last opportunity for candidate to display
ideas. It has one obstacle. Time duration is 10-15 minutes. Size of the obstacle is relatively large. After 5
minutes GTO will place all candidates on finish line. Then he will ask for ideas one by one. He may call
some of you to display your ideas. These are the candidates who have done probably well. Next day
conference will be followed by.

2. Do not show any sign of tiredness.
3. Give workable ideas from where you are.
4. Cooperate and assist others.

about your friends who are close to you and the reason why others were not close to you.
Tell me about your achievement in sports, extra-curricular activities and co-curricular activities and how your
education is financed.
CIQ 2 – Family Setup (07-12 minutes)
I would be interested in knowing about your mother, father, brother, sister or anyone else staying with you,
their education and occupation.
Tell me about activities in which you get involved, with whom do you share your problems, how much pocket
money you got and how you spent it, if not then how you managed your expenses.
Tell me about your neighbourhood friends and the activities in which you get involved with them.

CIQ 3 – Personal Growth (05-08 minutes)

Tell me about your routine in spare time, how you spent your spare time, your hobbies and interests, what you
watch on television, which books you read, how you used internet and your routine on holiday and about your
secrets.
