The world’s economy has been rapidly developing these days; hence,

there is a noticeable phenomenon rising among us: the overusing of


cars. In this essay, I will suggest the main causes and solutions to this
complicated problem.
Firstly, it would be a big mistake not to talk about car’s convenience
and comfort as they provide flexibility in time, routes, and privacy for
users. Economic growth is also an essential factor for us to take into
account Rising income levels make car ownership more affordable; as a
result, people can purchase more cars and use them despite the heavy
traffic in towns. Thus, big cities are massive economic and commercial
centres, there’s no wonder if all routes and highways are congested
during rush hours. And, lack of policy control such as weak enforcement
of congestion charges or fuel taxes encourage car use considerably. In
addition, people have their own cultural preferences, driving reflects
their social status, independence, lifestyles and personalities. Owning
and using a car will help them polish their appearance in some particular
ways.
In order to deal with this problem, the city governments should improve
public transport, expand bus and metro system, increase frequency,
ensure affordability and quality. Pedestrianization is also a great
initiative by changing some streets into pedestrian and cycling zones.
Thirdly , introduce congestion charges: the government should increase
the congestion taxes and stricter laws, policies to those who contravene
traffic rules. Additionally, promote carpooling and ride-sharing. Instead
of using your own car with a lot of space left, share it with your
neighbors or colleagues. This not only help reduce the quantity of cars
on the streets but also deepen the community bonds. Lastly, people
should make some public awareness campaigns to raise the awareness
of city dwellers about the severe influences of overusing car on the
environment and living condition.
Car is a big innovation for humanity, but if we keep overusing it, the
most prosperous area in the country will be a living hell for people there.
With the hope to reshape public attitudes towards sustainable mobility
through this essay, I reckon the reader will give a hand in reducing car
use with small actions and real passion.
