FOOTBALL NOTES – CLASS XII (PHYSICAL EDUCATION)
1. History of Football
Origin: Modern football (soccer) originated in England in the 19th century.
Governing Body: FIFA – Fédération Internationale de Football Association
(founded in 1904).
First World Cup: Held in 1930 in Uruguay (won by Uruguay).
Introduced in India: Football was introduced in India by British soldiers in
the mid-19th century.
AIFF (All India Football Federation): Established in 1937.
2. Important Terms
Term Meaning
Goal When the ball completely crosses the goal line between the goalposts.
Corner Awarded to attacking team when defenders last touch the ball before

Extra Time: Two halves of 15 minutes (if needed).
Penalty Shoot-out: Used if scores are still level after extra time.
