3.4.1 HyperText Markup Language (HTML)
HyperText Markup Language (HTML) was used as the core language for
structuring web pages throughout the industrial training period. HTML served
as the foundation upon which all web applications developed during the
training were built. It defined the structure and arrangement of content
displayed on web browsers, making it possible for users to view and interact
with information online.
During the training, HTML was used to create the basic layout of web pages by
organizing content into headings, paragraphs, images, tables, and lists. Various
HTML tags such as <h1> to <h6>, <p>, <img>, <table>, <form>, and <input>
were practiced extensively. These elements helped in structuring information in
a clear and readable manner.
Special attention was given to HTML forms, as they played a critical role in
user interaction. Forms were used to collect user inputs such as names, login
10
details, and waste report information in the Sokoto EcoClean project. Input
fields, text areas, buttons, and selection options were carefully designed to
ensure proper data collection.
HTML also supported the linking of multiple pages using hyperlinks. This
made it possible to navigate between different sections of a website such as
home pages, registration pages, login pages, and dashboards. Through
consistent practice, a strong understanding of how HTML structures web
content was developed.
3.4.2 Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) was used to control the presentation and visual
design of web pages created with HTML. While HTML provided the structure
of web pages, CSS was responsible for enhancing their appearance and
improving user experience.
During the training, CSS was applied to define colors, fonts, spacing,
alignment, and layout of web pages. Styles were written to control how text
appeared, how images were displayed, and how forms and buttons were
designed. This made web pages more attractive and easier to use.
CSS was also used to design navigation menus, headers, footers, and content
sections. Layout techniques such as margins, padding, positioning, and display
properties were practiced. These techniques helped in organizing page content
neatly and professionally.
Another important aspect of CSS learned during the training was consistency.
By using CSS, the same design style could be applied across multiple pages,
ensuring uniformity in appearance. This separation of content (HTML) from
presentation (CSS) made web applications easier to maintain and update.
Overall, CSS played a significant role in transforming plain HTML pages into
visually appealing and user-friendly web applications.
3.4.3 JavaScript (Introductory Level)
JavaScript was introduced during the industrial training as a client-side
scripting language used to enhance interactivity on web pages. The training
focused on basic JavaScript concepts to provide an understanding of how web
pages respond to user actions.
11
During the training, simple JavaScript features such as alert messages, basic
form validation, and event handling were demonstrated. JavaScript was used to
display notifications, confirm user actions, and ensure that form fields were
properly filled before submission.
