Selective Colorization (B&W and Color Combination)


Objective
To convert a photograph to black and white and then selectively bring back colors to
add drama and focus to the image.
Tools Required
Software
 Photoshop
Hardware
 Computer Set (Desktop or Laptop)
 Keyboard: This is essential for performing specific operational shortcuts during
the editing process, such as zooming, and making quick brush adjustments
(using [ and ] and the X key).
Main Steps
Step 1: Open the Photo
1. Open Photoshop.
2. Choose File > Open and select a color photo.
Step 2: Add Black & White Adjustment
1. Open the Adjustments panel (Window > Adjustments).
2. Click the Black & White adjustment icon.
3. Click the Auto button in the Properties panel.
Step 3: Prepare the Brush Tool
1. Select the Brush tool.
2. Set the Size and Hardness of the brush tip.
3. Set the paint color to black.
Step 4: Restore Color
1. Ensure the white layer mask thumbnail on the adjustment layer is selected.
2. Brush over the areas where you want the original color to return.
Step 5: Save the Result
1. Choose File > Save.
