LESSON 1
OBJECTIVES
Understand and use basic vocabulary related to dinosaurs (e.g. dinosaur, big, small,
long, fast, teeth, tail)
Listen to and understand simple information about dinosaurs
Participate in communication using single words and short sentences
Show understanding through movement, drawing, and simple classification
Steps
1. warm up 3mins
2. show picture of a dinosaur
3. Ask: What is this? Encourage guesses in English, accept in L1 also
4. Introduce the word dinosaur (drill and repetition, also gestures)
5. vocabulary 5 mins
6. introduce adjectives: big / small / long / fast and body parts: tail / teeth. with
flashcards
7. Use actions and mime
8. Drill vocabulary through repetition, whispering, loud voices, and pointing, or
movement.
9. movement activities - assuming verbs are already known 7 mins
10.listen and act: Run like a fast dinosaur, Stand still like a small dinosaur.
11.speaking practice 10 mins
12.show pictures of different looking dinosaurs
13.one student describes the dinosaur of their choosing, the rest has to guess which
one it is
14.this can be done in group, small groups or pairs
15.writing activity 20 mins
16.write a description of a dinosaur (a made up one)
17.review and cool down 5 mins
18.review vocab by pointing to flashcards
19. additional; if some children wrote a rhyme, let one s read their and everyone
can repeat and learn it
additional tasks for those who finish early:
for speaking (pairwork) - pretend your two dinosaurs are fighting, discuss which one
would win and why
for writing - write rhyme about dinosaurs
