FGD(Interview) with Project Team

 Organizational Structure
 DASCC-from north to south, from east to west in 34
branch offices
 Area office-4(South west Ethiopia
 Each area of has 5 branch offices
 Work in two regions-SNNP kefa zone in siylem and Gesha
district-Livelihood enhancement and climate change
adaptation program
 Oromia-3 child development program and -natural
resource conservation
 Project structure-manager and experts and cashers
 Branch offices-all engaged in its undertakings
 History and nature(Project focus)
 FELM donor-long time history and it is based on holistic
approach
 Service for flesh and spiritual
 Focusing on poor people who are far from educational
access, technological access, and etc.
 We looked at those with marginalized and not reached
citizens and started to implemented the projects
 Baseline study were conducted initially(manja and mana
ethnic groups)
 They were socially discriminated
 Their farming systems are very traditional and not
exploiting from what they get.
 The people have no knowledge of diversifying crops and
mainly relays on inset
 Uniformity of interventions
 Livelihood interventions-food security(temporary food
shortage-diversifying crops)
 , Gender mainstreaming-almost equal participation in
gender,
 Water sanitation
 Self-sanitation
 Wash
 Climate adaptation-multipurpose tree, undergo different
campaigns, plantations, climates working on climate
 Women empowerment in terms of income
 Inclusiveness for disabilities
 Uniformity of interventions-it is need based and
potentials available
 They are scattered and the interventions may not
proportional-There are variations between the two
weredas and among the ten kebeles.
 Project implementation alignments with needs identified
 The needs/expectations were met but not to the standard
set by FAO specifically for food security.
 We do not address all need due to resource problem but
we focus on core needs.
 It is also mandatory to the priority areas of the fund
providers
 Activities implemented
 Initiatives to enhance livelihood and resilience

 Partnership related matters
 Partnership is working very well
 We are loyal to our partners and our partners are loyal to
us
 Our trainings are evaluated by stirring committee and
they are our partners
 We have selection criteria and these criteria’s are made
public and partners know it very well.
 Challenges encountered
 Infrastructural problems to take productions outputs to
market
 Electricity, network, road, health facility, transportation
problems and environmental issues (rainfall), the
government attention is low and it is hard to reach these
people.
 Price escalation(inflation)
 The kebeles are very scattered and vast, limited human
resource, car is old and its maintenance cost is high,
accessories and spare parts, fuel all affected us.
 New governmental proclamations on imported goods/cars
were very challenging.
 Staff turnover is high on line departments
 Lessons Learned
 We got the opportunity to reach very stigmatized people
and this helped us to enrich our experience
 It helped us to diversify our services to diversified society
and ethnic groups
 It is new for us to work with minority group and helped us
to get much experience
 We have gained a lesson on ensuring women
empowerment and inclusive development with minimal
possible resource. We have learned a lot on maintaining
or ensuring efficiency.
 Discrimination in ethnic groups and clans are now
significantly reduced.
