EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Retail marketing plays a vital role in connecting manufacturers with final consumers and
has emerged as one of the most dynamic sectors of the Indian economy. With changing
consumer lifestyles, rising income levels, and increasing awareness about quality and
value, retail marketing strategies have become more customer-centric and competitive.
This MBA project focuses on studying retail marketing practices and consumer perception
with reference to a selected retail organization.
The main objective of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of retail marketing
strategies, understand consumer buying behavior, evaluate customer satisfaction levels,
and identify the factors influencing purchase decisions in the retail sector. The project also
aims to examine promotional strategies, pricing policies, product availability, and overall
retail store experience from the consumer’s perspective.
The research methodology adopted for this study is descriptive research design. Both
primary and secondary data have been used. Primary data was collected through a
structured questionnaire administered to customers using convenience sampling
technique, while secondary data was collected from books, journals, websites, company
records, and previous research studies. The sample size selected for the study was
sufficient to draw meaningful conclusions.
The findings of the study reveal that product quality, price, availability, and
promotional offers are the major factors influencing consumer purchase decisions in retail
stores. Customers show a positive attitude towards organized retail formats and prefer
stores that offer good service quality, proper product display, cleanliness, and attractive
discounts. Promotional activities such as discounts, combo offers, and loyalty schemes
play a significant role in increasing sales and customer retention.
The study also highlights certain challenges faced by retailers, such as intense competition,
price sensitivity of customers, limited product awareness, and inconsistent availability of
products. Based on the findings, suitable suggestions have been provided to improve retail
marketing strategies, enhance customer satisfaction, strengthen promotional activities, and
increase brand loyalty.
In conclusion, this project emphasizes that effective retail marketing strategies are essential
for sustaining growth and gaining competitive advantage in today’s highly competitive
retail environment. The study will be useful for retailers, marketers, and management
students to understand practical aspects of retail marketing and consumer behavior.
