Learning engagement is made up of several components, such as cognitive, emotional, and behavioral

aspects, that work together to create a meaningful learning experience. Learning engagement is more
than just students' physical attendance in the classroom; it also includes their attention, interest, and
active participation in the learning process. Alamsyah et al. (2024) emphasized that learning
engagement has major concerns in the effort to improve students' learning achievement as it reflect the
degree of whichthe learners are mentally and emotionally invested in learning process. Similarly,
Ramdhany (2022) defined learning engagement as the involvement and commitment of the students in
the learning process, as well as active participation in class, such as enthusiasm, a sense of belonging,
compliance with existing rules, particularly regarding learning, and student behavior during the learning
process. Herikusuma et al. (2023), learning engagement is the willingness of learners to participate
actively in various school activities, both inside and outside the classroom, through the application of
different effective learning processes.

The Socratic Method of questioning is a way to get the learners engaged. Socratic method of
questioning is about asking questions to help the learners to think about their ideas. This method is a
way of asking questions that makes students examine their own ideas to find out what they assume by
looking closely at concepts and figure out what they know and what they do not know. In the classroom
Socratic Method of questioning helps students think deeply about things reason things out logically and
think about what they understand. Elder et al. (2019) highlighted that continuous practice of Socratic
questioning helps the learners to develop their critical thinking, intellectual humility, and the ability to
articulate and defend their own perspectives. This study suggest that Socratic method of questioning to
supports the active learning engagement and to strengthen the ability of the learners to reason argues
and articulate their own perspective

Learning engagement is an important aspect in the learning success of the learners, and the Socratic
Method shown the capacity to greatly increase the engagement of the learners. According to the study
of Suhardina (2019), study on the use of Socratic questioning in fostering critical thinking in language
acquisition discovered that this strategy improved student engagement, listening and involvement. The
Socratic method of questioning emphasized the teacher-centered to learner-centered of instructions,
denontrating its effects on language acquisition. In addition to encouraging critical thinking, it enhanced
students argumentative abilities, active listening and their ability to engaged in meaningful dialogue.

The Socratic Method is good for students those in Senior High School. It helps the students look at ideas
think about points of view and join in on discussions, about the Socratic Method. The Socratic Method
has a great help for the learners to understand various things better. Condes (2018), noted that
continuous questioning, the Socractic method hel the learners to develop their critical thinking
independently, to solve problems and it boost the confidence to express their ideas. Because of that it
transform the classroom into interactive learning environment which can help the learners to be
motivated to explore different concepts deeply, to connect their learnings in a real life situations and
become more reflective and it help the learners to be motivated in participating their class.

This study aims to examine the level of learners engagement using Socratic questioning strategies
among selected Senior High School students of Lemery Colleges. It seek to examine how Socratic
question influence the students cognitive, emotional and behavioral engagement in the classroom, as
well as how this strategy help the learners to develop their critical thinking, communication skills, and
willingness to participate in their class discussion
