The Problem: A Convergence of Factors

1. Defective Drainage: At present this is one of the problems that

caused the flooding of Brgy. Dalakit; the lack of drainage canals
leads the water to directly run to the low-lying areas of the barangay,
As the saying goes “When it rains, it Pours”.

2. The Boulevard Barrier: Once water reaches the low-lying areas, it

reaches a height of 4 to 5 feet. Our research identified the most
affected purok as Purok 3 near the Dalakit boulevard Barrier.

3. Socio-Economic Impact: Most homes in these high-impact areas

belong to informal settlers and are constructed from light materials.
Using nipa roofing, bamboo posts, and tarpaulin walls makes these
structures highly vulnerable to destruction during floods.

The Proposed Solution: The Flood Water Catch Basin with Solar-Powered
Water Screening Facility.

Specific Objectives

 To design a centralized Catch Basin system -this reservoir will house about
28,000 cubic meters or 28,000,000 liters of flood water before it reaches the
critical level.
 To integrate a high-tech Water Screening Facility -Once the water reaches it
critical level, the water screening sensor will automatically it and will start the
water screening process, removing harmful debris and contaminants before it is
released to the Pacific Ocean.
 To implement an automated activation system using water detection sensors

that trigger the screening and release process once the water reaches a specific

critical level.

 To utilize Solar Energy - once the project is realized, implemented and turn-

over the project will not be an extra burden in terms of expensive electric bill,
because it uses renewable solar energy which again helps promote an eco-

friendly environment.

 To evaluate the ecological impact this structure once realized, will be an

example to all future structures alike, because will not only solve the problems on

flooding it will also promote the “care” of our marine ecosystem.

 To provide a strategic infrastructure blueprint -come to think of it, if this

project will be realized and be implemented, it will really solve problems

economically and environmentally.
