About Us – Background
Building tomorrow Integrated Youth and Community Development Organization is a local non-
government organization established under the registry number 6517 given by the Ethiopian Federal
Authority for Civil Society Organizations on 17th November 2022. Building Tomorrow IYCDO is
established by four philanthropic colleagues who were working together in development sector and have
common goals and interest in contributing own part to improve the lives of disadvantaged children.
Specifically, the central idea for Building Tomorrow came out from the heartfelt feelings of supporting
those victims of trafficking and street children at Arba Minch town and institutionalize the support
system. Building Tomorrow mainly aimed to support the holistic development needs of children, youth
and community members across project target regions of the country. Building Tomorrow is planned to
operate in at least four regions SNNP, Afar, Tigray and Addis Ababa.

children. The founding members and board members of Building Tomorrow
has more than 20 years of practical experience in working in development
and humanitarian sector with children and youth groups in difficult situations
and underserved and marginalized communities across the country.
Visison
To see vulnerable children, youth and disadvantaged community member become self-resilient and
improved their access to social services in Ethiopia.
Mission
Work with Highly vulnerable children, women and youths from marginalized families and community
groups in order to improve their lives through giving education opportunity, income generating activities,
skill trainings and other developmental accomplishments.
Goal
To improve the lives of children, the youth and the communities we support
in Ethiopia in a practical and sustainable manner.

The founding members and board members of Building Tomorrow has more than 20 years of practical
experiences in working in development, emergency and humanitarian settings with children, youth and
marginalized community groups living in difficult situations in underserved corridors across the country.

Tatek Dejenie
Tatek is one of the founder and Executive Director of Building Tomorrow. Tatek is a program
development expert, education specialist, master trainer, and social work specialist with different
educational background (MA in Social work, BA degree in sociology and Social Anthropology and BA
degree in Education). Tatek has extensive years of work experience in development, emergency and
humanitarian program areas and advocate for social accountability and community based volunteering.
Tesfahun Mergia
A founder and project coordinator at building tomorrow. He is an experienced leader and project manager
at international non-governmental organization level with a desirable skill of strategic thinking,
partnership development and engagement, networking, knowledge management and resource
mobilization and staff management. A strong passion for working with disadvantaged groups, applying
participatory techniques and an integrated approach to build community resilience within the
humanitarian and development sector.

body in and about 60% of board members are female and actively engaged in setting strategic direction of
the organization.

Previous experience in project work
Building tomorrow has been working in Arba Minch town on issues related to
community awareness on child protection and safeguarding, importance of
education and GBV with the support of individual sponsors from Canada.
In addition, Building Tomorrow have been supported educational materials
(exercise books, different colour books, pen, pencils and playing materials)
for most vulnerable children from Arba Minch Kulfo primary school.
