CASE STUDY
Heritage comes from the idea of inheritance—things we receive from the past. Every nation
has two kinds of heritage: tangible heritage, such as monuments, buildings, and artworks, and
intangible heritage, which includes language, traditions, values, food, music, dance, and
storytelling. Intangible heritage often shapes a country’s unique identity, like Flamenco in
Spain, shadow puppetry in China, or falconry in the UAE. Although culture changes over
time, heritage helps us understand who we are and where we come from. Preserving both
tangible and intangible heritage is important, and organizations like UNESCO work with
countries to protect these cultural treasures for future generations.
