PROBLEM
Autonomous electric taxis are used in big cities like Madrid to solve several problems. To begin
with, pollution is reduced because these taxis are powered by electricity instead of petrol, so the
air in the city is kept cleaner for the people who live there. In addition, traffic jams are avoided
more easily because their navigation systems choose more efficient routes. Thanks to this, time is
saved and the streets are used in a more organised way.
Moreover, service costs are lowered because no driver is needed and electric motors are
considered easier to maintain. As a result, cheaper transport can be offered to users. At the same
time, road safety is improved, because many accidents are caused by human error and these risks
are reduced when autonomous technology is used.
As the population continues to grow, mobility needs can be met at any time of day. Autonomous
taxis can be used 24 hours a day, so reliable transport is provided for everyone. Finally, a more
modern image of the city is created, because noise pollution is reduced and people are
encouraged not to use private cars.
HOW TO INTRODUCE IT IN MADRID
Before autonomous electric taxis can be introduced in Madrid, some important steps must be
planned. To begin with, the idea has to be presented to the Comunidad de Madrid so the
government understands the project and gives permission to start. This first step is important
because the plan cannot continue without their approval.
Once the project is accepted, the city needs places where the taxis can be stored and repaired.
These centres will be used to park, clean, check, and fix the vehicles, and they must have workers
who know how to handle electric and autonomous cars. Having these facilities ready makes the
service easier to manage.
After that, it is necessary to decide where the taxis will operate. A study of Madrid’s streets and
traffic helps choose the safest and most efficient areas, and when this study is finished, the
operating zone can be marked clearly. This allows the service to start in a controlled and organised
way.
In addition, charging stations must be installed across the city. They should be placed in different
neighbourhoods so the taxis can be charged easily, and staff will supervise them to make sure
everything works correctly. With enough charging points, the taxis can operate all day without
problems.
Finally, when everything is ready, the service needs to be promoted to the public. Information can
be shared through posters, social media, and public transport so people understand how the
system works and feel encouraged to use it. This helps the new service become part of everyday
life in the city.
CONCLUSION
In conclusion, this project can be considered a realistic proposal for a city like Madrid.
Autonomous electric taxis offer clear benefits for both people and the environment, since they
reduce pollution, improve mobility, and make transport more efficient. In addition, this technology
is already being developed in other countries, which shows that it is possible to introduce it
successfully here as well. For all these reasons, this system could become an important step
towards a cleaner and more modern city.
