Overspeeding increases fuel consumption and decreases fuel economy as a result of tyre
rolling friction and air resistance. While vehicles reach optimal fuel economy at different
speeds, fuel mileage usually decreases rapidly at speeds above 80 km/h.

38. The members of a consulting firm rent cars from three rental agencies- Agency X, Agency Y
and Agency Z. They rent 50% from agency X, 30% from agency Y and 20% from agency Z.
From past experience it is known that 9% of the cars from agency X need a service before
renting, 12% of cars from agency Y need service and 10% of cars from agency Z need service.
Assume that the rental car delivered to the firm needs service. Based upon this data answer
the following:
i) What is the probability that the car needs service before renting?
ii) If the rental car delivered to the firm needs service, find the probability that the car is
not rented from Z.
