METHOD STATEMENT FOR Erection of 60m tall steel flue gas exhaust stack along with accessories at
BARC main campus site

Project :Erection of 60m tall steel flue gas exhaust stack along with
accessories at BARC main campus site
Permit: : SVL Team will take day wise permit as Per BARC ®ulations through proper
Channel of BARC
PPE’ s to be used : Safety Helmet, Safety shoe, and Full body Safety Harness,dust mask will be used
GENERAL HSE RULES & REGULATIONS
1. All employees must know and observe all safety rules applicable to their work
2. All injuries must be reported to the work supervisor, work supervisor in turn will report the
accident to the Safety Officer of the client.
3. Horseplay or fighting ,running or jumping except emergency, intoxicants, smoking inside work
area ,tempering with equipment , firearms are prohibited. Employees to wear tight fitting
clothing. Must wear Safety shoes and helmet to enter work site premises.
4. Use appropriate personal protective equipment While handling hazardous materials All safety
equipment to be used in the premises must be of approved type .
5. A safety belt is required for working a: 1.2MTR or more height.
6. Safety Requirements Shall be Follows:
a) Supervisor/contractor representative should be available at site
b) Personal protective equipment: Safety Shoes and Safety Helmet are Mandatory to enter The Work
Site .Other Safety equipment’s Like Safety Belt ,safety Gloves and Safety Goggles to be Worn as
applicable For Site Work.
c) Life Line and Personal Safety Belt to be used For Working on Heights
d) All Fitting equipment to have valid registration, Insurance and calibration certificate
SAFETY INDUCTION : IT will be given to all employees on their arrival on site.

Inspection : The lifting location should be inspected for soil condition, earth level
and electrical cables, ropes in the vicinity. General Inspection of
Winches should be carried out.
Ensure all lifting Tackles / Tools including are inspected and certified by
certified by competent person.
Preparation:
Based on the weight & length,check radius and position while planning for lift, the size of equipment, sling size and
center of gravity should be considered.
Load Test : Before lifting the SHELL , load test will be carried out for the crane
by gradually lifting the heat exchanger to 1 meter height from the ground level,
and hold for 15 minutes and inspect all joints and lifting points for any slip /
abnormal.
Rigging / Positioning : If the load test found satisfactorily then the SHELL shall
be hoisted to the required elevation at a very gradual speed and its to
fastened.
PPE’s to be used : Safety Helmets, Safety shoe, and Fall arresters, . Full body
Safety harness with double lanyard
Special Instructions : Barricade the area, which include potential fall radius of
hoisting equipment and the load.
Ensure Entry / Exit are not blocked by stacking equipment’s / materials. Use
proper fasteners and tools safely. Use guide ropes while lifting materials.

1. Method Statement for Lifting Operations
Access to be restricted to the site area.
All work areas to be kept clear of trip hazards and a good housekeeping standard is
required.
All operatives to wear project specific PPE including - coveralls or long sleeved t-shirts and
trousers, hi-vis coats/vests, hard hats, safety glasses and ankle supported safety boots.
Gloves and hearing protection will be available for use when required.
A certified Slinger/signaler to be identified to the lift operator by different colored hi-
visibility clothing and/or safety helmet.
A mobile phone to be available for summoning emergency assistance.
All lifting equipment and accessories used on site will be appropriately certified and tested.
2. The work Method for Lifting and Shifting operation is:
An assessment will be made on site by the appointed person and/or the crane supervisor
as to the weight and suitability of the item to be lifted
The current location and the final location of the structure shifting to be established.
Selection, provision and use of suitable crane and lifting equipment is then to be
considered in consultation with a suitable supplier
The crane and lifting equipment selected for the operation is to be assessed prior to
use for appropriate and up to date maintenance and inspection records, examination
and testing certification.

Lifting accessories selected for use for these lifting operations will either be Hired
from a reputable local supplier and be supplied with the required certification or
supplied from the company store of lifting equipment and will be color coded with
the current lifting equipment color.
The current lifting equipment color will be clearly displayed on the site.
The condition of all lifting accessories to be utilized on any specific lift will be
assessed by the crane supervisor and/or slinger/signaler prior to use and any
defects identified reported immediately and the equipment removed from use and
replaced/repaired
Prior to any lifting operation taking place the site access and working area will be
assessed and if necessary, preparations will be made to ensure suitable working
platform and access road.
3. Lifting & Shifting Crane safety precautions:
Soil or ground condition shall be checked and should be levelled.
Hoist a load only after a clear signal is given from the signalman.
Identify the weight of the load and ensure it is within the safe working load (SWL)
of the crane/hydra before hoisting/lifting.
Outrigger shall be fully extended and at least 1 meter away from manholes and
trenches.
Do not overload, always lift up to SWL (safe working load).
Crane shall be used up to 75% of its capacity
Do not operate crane in high wind and raining conditions.
Barricade the swinging radius of crane and don’t allow unauthorized persons except
for trained and certified rigger.
Rigger should wear a jacket.
The only rigger can give signal to the crane operators.

Minimum two tag lines shall be used to control the swinging of load.
Man entry is not allowable under the suspended load even if he is a rigger.
Straight, basket, and choker hitch shall be used.
Crane should have a reverse beep horn.
