The Story of Peter

The Disciple with a Big Heart

Peter was one of Jesus’ closest friends. Before he followed Jesus, his name
was Simon, and he was just an ordinary fisherman. Every day he worked hard
catching fish in the Sea of Galilee.

One day, Jesus came to Simon while he was washing his fishing nets. Jesus
told him, “Follow Me, and I will make you a fisher of people.”

Right away, Simon left his nets and followed Jesus. From that day on, Jesus
gave him a new name: Peter, which means “rock.” Jesus had a special plan
for him.

Peter Walks on Water

One night, the disciples were in a boat during a storm. They saw Jesus
walking on the water and were afraid. But Jesus said, “Do not be afraid,” it is
me.

Peter said, “Lord, if it is really You, tell me to come to You on the water.” Jesus
said, “Come.”

Peter stepped out of the boat and walked on water toward Jesus! But when
he looked at the strong wind and waves, he became afraid and began to sink.
He cried out, “Lord, save me!”

Jesus immediately grabbed him and said, “Why did you doubt?”

Peter learned that we must keep our eyes on Jesus, even when we are afraid.

Peter Says the Right Thing

One day, Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say that I am?”

Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus was
very happy and said God had helped Peter understand this truth. Jesus told
Peter he would be like a rock, helping others believe in Him.
Peter Makes a Big Mistake

Peter loved Jesus very much. He once said,

“Even if everyone else leaves You, I never will!”

But on the night Jesus was arrested, Peter became afraid. Three times people
asked him, he knew Jesus, he is a part of Him. Three times Peter said, “I
don’t know Him.”

Right after that, a rooster crowed. Peter remembered Jesus had said this
would happen. Peter felt very sad and cried. He knew he had done wrong.

Jesus Forgives Peter

After Jesus rose from the dead, He met Peter again. Jesus asked him three
times, “Do you love Me?” Each time Peter said, “Yes, Lord, You know I love
You.” Jesus forgave Peter and gave him an important job: “Take care of My
people.” Peter was no longer afraid. Later, he bravely told many people about
Jesus. God used Peter to help start the church.

The lesson from Peter

We don’t have to be perfect for Jesus to love us.

Even when we fail, Jesus forgives us.

Jesus can use ordinary people to do great things.

When we keep our eyes on Jesus, He helps us be brave.

Peter was not perfect — but he loved Jesus, and Jesus changed his life
forever.
