The document outlines a load projection for a geothermal power plant with an initial net load of 30 MW, expecting to grow at an annual rate of 3% over 10 years, resulting in a projected load of 40.32 MW. It details the calculations for the required steam flow rate, peak load, plant capacity, and reserve capacity, concluding with an annual energy production estimate of 223,380 MWh. The proposed plant capacity is 30 MW, with a reserve margin of 5.9%.

Initial net load: P0= 30 MW

Annual growth rate: r = 3 %

Planning horizon: n = 10 yrs (“After 10 years, the plant is reviewed, and upgrades or expansion
are implemented if needed.”)

Load Projection Formula

Pn = P0(1+r)n

P10 = 30(1 + .03)10

P10 = 40.32 MW

Geothermal Power Equation

Pe = ms(hin−hout)ηtηg

Pe = electrical power output (kW)

ṁs = steam mass flow rate (kg/s)
h¿ = turbine inlet enthalpy (kJ/kg)
h out= turbine exhaust enthalpy (kJ/kg)
ηt = turbine efficiency
η g= generator efficiency

Given:

hin = 1932 kJ/kg

hout =

ηt = 0.80

ηg = 0.95

Required Steam Flow Rate for 30 MW:

m˙s = Pe / (hin−hout)ηtηg

m˙s = 30,000 / (1932−)(0.80)(0.95)

m˙s = kg/s
Assumed Load Factor = 0.85

Peak Load = Average Load/Load Factor

Peak Load = 24/0.85

Peak Load = 28.24 MW

Losses usually is around 8–12% (transmission + auxiliary)

Assumed losses = 10%

Plant Capacity = Peak Load (1+Losses)

Plant Capacity = 28.24 (1+0.10)

Plant Capacity = 31.064 MW

Proposed Plant Capacity = 30 MW

Reserve Capacity Check:

Reserve Capacity = 1.76 MW

Reserve Margin = (1.76 / 30) × 100 = 5.9 %

Annual energy production:

E = Pe × Load Factor × 8760

E = 30 × 0.85 × 8760

E = 223,380 MWh/year
