I. The Constitution
Definition: The Constitution is the supreme law of the land — it is the highest legal authority
from which all other laws derive their power.
Purpose:
o Establishes the framework of government.
o Divides powers among branches to prevent abuse.
o Ensures that laws and actions conform to constitutional principles.
Supremacy Clause:
o The Constitution is above all other laws.
o Any law or act inconsistent with it is invalid.
o Ensures that all government actions are constitutional.
II. Branches of Government (Separation of Powers)

3. Judicial Branch – interprets laws and ensures they follow the Constitution.

III. The Bill of Rights (Article III)
Purpose: To limit government power and protect individual freedoms.

o Right to due process and equal protection
