Ques.1 An irreversible gas phase reaction 2A→5B is carried
out in an isothermal CSTR at steady state -rA= 0.05 CA. The
feed is an equimolar mixture of reactant and inert. The
reactor volume is 2 m3, the inlet flow rate is 0.5m3/h and the
inlet concentration of the reactant is 100mol/m3. Calculate
the fractional conversion at the exit.
Ques.2 A CSTR and a PFR of equal volume are connected in
series to carry out a first order, isothermal, liquid phase
reaction A→ P. The rate constant is 0.2 s-1. The space-time is
5 s for both the reactors. Overall fractional conversion of A is
Ques.3 One desires to process a reversible reaction 2A ↔ P
+ Q at constant volume in a CSTR. Pure reactant A is fed
under flow of 3.5 m3/h and initial concentration of 48
kmol/m3. The forward reaction rate constant is equal to 0.75
m3/(kmol.h) and the equilibrium constant K = 16. Calculate
the volume of CSTR if the final conversion is desired to be
85% of the equilibrium conversion.
Ques.4 An ideal gas phase reaction is carried out in an ideal
PFR achieving 40% conversion of A. The feed has 70 mol% of
A and 30 mol% inert. The inlet temperature is 300 K and the
outlet temperature is 400K. Calculate the ratio of the outlet
to inlet molar concentration of A.
