Section 7 – The Professional Teacher and Government Officials & Other Professionals

• Teachers must maintain harmonious and pleasant relations with:

o Fellow teachers

o Other professionals

o Government officials

o The community (individually or collectively)

• Being professional means:

o Avoiding conflicts and misunderstandings

o Working cooperatively with others

o Always being respectful and approachable

o Ex: when we are at a public area, we should act as a professional. Because we


teachers are not only professionals in the school, but we bring our professionality in
the civic society.

o Especially SOCSTUD teachers, because we promote civic competence, which


means: knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values that enable an individual to actively
and responsibly participate in their community, society, and political life,
particularly within a democratic context

• Essence: A teacher should be a role model of good relationships and unity in the
community.

Section 8 – The Professional Teacher Does Not Use Position to Proselyte

• Teachers have the freedom of religion and worship, but:

o They must not use their position or authority to convert others.

o For example, saying “Join my religion” to students is unprofessional.

• The 1987 Philippine Constitution protects:

o Freedom of religion

o Equality of all faiths without discrimination

o Article III, Section 5 (Bill of Rights) → “No law shall be made respecting an
establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. The free exercise
and enjoyment of religious profession and worship, without discrimination or
preference, shall forever be allowed.”

• Essence: A teacher must respect the diversity of beliefs and never impose personal
religious views on learners.
