Introduction : This lesson focuses on writing. The main focus of this lesson is
getting the pupils to write their own descriptions about fruits
correctly.
Learning outcomes : 1.3 Acquire vocabulary and understand the meaning of words and
phrases in context.
2.3 Give relevant information politely in response to enquiries made.
3.4 Read aloud expressively and fluently pronouncing words correctly
and intonation and sentences rhythm.
4.5 Construct simple and compound sentences with guidance and
independently.
Specifications : 1.3.1 Listen to key words and phrases heard.
2.3.1Respond to simple questions.
3.4.1 Read aloud words and phrases correctly and with correct
pronunciation.
.5.3 Construct simple sentences independently by looking at the
picture.
Objectives : By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to write simple sentences
about fruits.
Targeted group : Year 5
Time : 60 minutes
Teaching aids : A4 size paper , coloured pencils, envelopes with pictures of fruits,
glue and worksheet
Activity 1:
- Teacher reads a riddle. Get the students to make a guess.
What is the answer to this
riddle when do you go at
red and stop at green?
Answer : When you're eating a watermelon
Activity 2:
- Do a brainstorm with the students. In the middle of the whiteboard put up a picture of
a watermelon mind map. Get students to provide any words they know about
watermelon. Write the words in appropriate places on the mind map. Teacher
introduces some new words such as fleshy, juicy, creeper etc

Activity 3:
- Based on the words shown on the mind map, students try to make sentences with
teacher’s guidance. Teacher writes the sentences on the board.
- Example : The watermelon has many tiny black seeds.
Activity 4:
- Students work in pairs. Each group takes an envelope which consists of a picture of a
fruit and a piece of blank paper.
- In pairs, students paste the picture on the paper. Discuss and draw their own mind
map with coloured pencils. Then construct as many sentences as possible.
- Teacher circulates while they are doing this to monitor discussion.
- When they are done, get students to present their work and read the sentences.

Each student gets a worksheet and completes it individually.
