Fabric term :
Fold-line:
fold-line Fold the fabric in half, and line up that edge of the fabric piece along
the fold.
Selvage:
Selvage is the self-finished edge of the fabric. The selvages are
bias located on either finished edge of fabric.
Grain line:
The grainline runs parallel to the selvage. The long arrow symbol printed on a pattern corresponds
to the location of the fabric’s grainline.
Cross grain:
The cross grain runs perpendicular to the selvage.
Mirror image:
Fold fabric right side together. Place pattern piece on folded fabric
and trace. After cutting the piece out, you have two mirror image pieces.
Cut on fold:
Fold fabric in half and line up that edge of the pattern along fold.
Then cut around the pattern piece, except for the side that is on hold.
cut on fold
Once you open up the piece, you will have a piece that’s twice as big as
the original pattern piece.
