Module 6 Learning Log: Building your resume
Instructions
You can use this document as a template for this module’s activity: Building your resume. To do this,
click on “File” in the toolbar and “Make a copy,” or download from the assignment link. For credit for
your learning log reflection, type your answers in this document and submit to your instructor through
the Module 6 assignment link by the end of the module.
Additionally, as noted earlier, I recommend that you save every BUS 109 self-assessment log in one
folder and include a date in the file name to help you stay organized. After you finish your
self-assessment log entry, you can come back and reread your responses later to understand how your
opinions have changed or developed, and to help inform the writing of your final self-assessment
reflection paper.

The results will be the basis of the reflection questions below.
Reflection: Write at least 2-3 sentences in response to each of the questions.
Questions and 1. Using the Resume Builder and based on your background and experience, fill in
responses: the blanks to create a draft of your resume. Attach the resume you have
created with this assignment. What aspects of your resume do you think can
be improved? What additional training do you think would make your resume
more successful?
Type your response here.
My work experience needs to be improved. My only job experience has been
working at Target as a cashier which is obviously not in the graphic design
industry. I need to start looking into internships to improve my resume.
2. After creating a Jobscan (link) account, try uploading your resume to scan it
against any desired job (enter the job title, or ideally, a specific job posting).
According to the scan, to what extent (percentage) is your resume a match for
the job? What tips could you apply to improve your resume (e.g., its layout,
searchability, attractiveness to recruiters)?
Type your response here.
I had a “low match rate” on the jobscan for Graphic Designer. The biggest thing to
improve obviously was that I have no experience working as a graphic designer so
I would need to fix that by getting an internship or something similar. There were
also some other things like date formatting and education level that needed to be
fixed.
Summary: Write 4-5 sentences or one paragraph.
Share your resume draft with the class on the Module 6 discussion board, and
include in your post (1) what job(s) and/or industries you are seeking to target and
(2) any questions you might have about creating a better resume. Look to the
resume of 1-2 classmates and provide any constructive comments or reactions.
For example, how do you think the layout and structure of the resume could be
changed to enhance its visual appeal and readability? What do you think can be
added, deleted, or edited to improve its effectiveness?
When you are ready to post your summary to the discussion board, click on
the Module 6 Discussion link and Start a New Thread. In the subject field of your
initial post and your replies, use a word or phrase that summarizes your posting.
Aim to create and post your initial discussion within the first three days of the
module opening. Reply to at least one of your classmates. Note that to read and
reply to your classmates’ threads, you need to first start a thread.
