**SCRIPT: WHEN PRESSURE TAKES THE
THRONE**
---
### **Characters:**
Narrator (Khang)
Vinh – a husband overwhelmed by work pressure
Nam – a strict, hot-tempered boss
Linh – a devoted wife
Trưng – their little daughter, innocent and sweet
Duy Khang – the calm, wise grandfather
Vy – the gentle grandmother
---
### **OPENING – NARRATOR (Khang)**
**Khang:**
Modern life spins everyone in a whirlwind of work.
People keep chasing reports and deadlines,
forgetting that behind the office door —
someone is still waiting for them to come home with a
smile.
---
### **SCENE 1 – AT THE OFFICE**
*Setting: Afternoon. Papers scattered, cold white light.*
**Vinh:** (typing tiredly)
Ten more minutes… come on, you can do this…
*(The door bursts open – Nam storms in.)*
**Nam:**
Vinh! I said the report was due at six. Look at the clock
— what time is it now?
You call this efficiency?
**Vinh:**
Sir… I was just adjusting the numbers to make them
more accurate. I was afraid of mistakes.
**Nam:**
Accurate but late? Who’s going to take responsibility?
I sent a new report template this morning, and you’re
still using the old one.
Tell me honestly — do you even read company emails,
or just waste time on nonsense online?
**Vinh:**
But… this morning you told me to use the old format…
**Nam:** (slams the desk)
Are you talking back to me?!
Here, you do as I say. Be flexible — not just a robot
waiting for orders!
You’d better start earning the salary you’re being paid
for!
**Vinh:**
I… I’m sorry, sir. I’ll fix it right away.
**Nam:**
You’d better. I want it on my desk by 8 a.m. tomorrow.
Otherwise, don’t bother showing up again.
*(Nam leaves. Vinh sighs heavily, holding his head.)*
**Khang:**
Those scolding words may seem like “just work,”
but each of them is a stone pressing on the heart —
a weight that few know how to lay down
before stepping through the door of home.
---
### **SCENE 2 – PRESSURE BROUGHT
HOME**
---
#### **2.1 – THE FIRST NIGHT**
*Setting: A small house. Cold dinner, dim yellow light.*
**Vinh:** (walks in, exhausted)
Why isn’t dinner ready yet, Linh?
**Linh:**
I just picked Trưng up from her extra class. The rice is
heating — please wait a bit.
**Vinh:**
Always extra classes! What’s the point? Just wasting
money!
**Linh:** (staying calm)
She’s got exams soon. I just want her to learn more.
Please don’t raise your voice — she can hear you.
**Trưng:** (runs out holding a drawing)
Daddy! My teacher said I drew the best in class today!
**Vinh:** (snaps)
Dad’s tired. Go to your room.
*(Trưng lowers her head and walks away. The air grows
heavy.)*
**Khang:**
A shout may last only seconds,
but its echo stays in someone’s heart for years.
---
#### **2.2 – ON THE WAY HOME**
*Setting: Late night. The dim headlight of a motorbike
on a quiet road.*
**Trưng:**
Mom… my teacher said we need to pay for the new
month’s class.
She told me to bring the receipt for Dad to sign.
**Linh:** (sighs)
I know, sweetheart. I’ll talk to Dad tomorrow.
He’s tired now, so let’s not mention money tonight,
okay?
**Trưng:**
But… will Dad yell again?
I don’t like it when he shouts and you cry...
**Linh:** (soft smile, patting her daughter’s head)
No, honey. He’s just under pressure.
Adults get angry when they’re tired — not because they
don’t love you.
Be good and study well, and Dad will be happy again.
*(They ride in silence. The motor fades into the dark —
lights dim for the next scene.)*
---
#### **2.3 – THE NIGHT OF EXPLOSION**
*Setting: Rain outside. Messy house. Cold dinner left
untouched.*
**Vinh:** (enters, soaked and frustrated)
Where’s dinner, Linh? I come home dead tired, and the
house looks like a dump!
**Linh:**
I’m sorry, I fell asleep putting Trưng to bed.
She got home late from class — I was too tired to clean
up.
**Vinh:** (throws his bag down, voice rising)
Always “because of the kid”!
Do you have any idea what I go through at work?!
I’m not a machine, Linh! I’m human too!
**Linh:**
And you think I’m not tired?
I cook, clean, help with homework, pay the bills… when
do I get to rest?
**Trưng:** (walks out, timidly)
Dad… my teacher said I need to pay for class…
Mom said tomorrow… please don’t yell at her again…
**Vinh:** (shouts)
Go to your room! Stay out of this!
*(Trưng runs back to her room, crying.)*
**Linh:** (tearfully)
See? She’s scared of you now!
She used to run to hug you when you came home —
now she hides. Doesn’t that break your heart?
**Vinh:**
I already face pressure all day out there —
do I have to face it again at home?!
**Linh:**
At least when you weren’t home, our child could
breathe peacefully.
Now, every time she hears your key turn, she hides in
fear!
**Vinh:** (slams the table)
Enough! Don’t blame me for everything!
Everything I do is for this family!
**Linh:**
For the family? By shouting, by hurting me, by terrifying
our child?
**Vinh:**
Who are you to lecture me?!
*(He slams the table and, in a moment of rage,
accidentally strikes her. “SLAP!” — silence freezes the
air.)*
**Linh:** (touching her cheek, trembling)
You… you just hit me?
**Vinh:** (stunned)
I… I didn’t mean to… I just…
**Linh:**
No, Vinh. You’ve changed.
You’re not the man I fell in love with — not the husband
I once knew.
You’ve forgotten that the ones who need you most
aren’t at the office — they’re right here at home.
*(Knocking at the door. The grandparents enter.)*
**Khang (grandfather):**
What’s going on here?
Vinh, what have you done?
Pressure can be managed — not poured onto the
people you love!
**Vy (grandmother):**
And Linh, stop suffering in silence.
Speaking up won’t destroy your family — silence might.
**Linh:**
Dad, Mom… I’m tired.
I’ll take Trưng home for a few days —
so we can all calm down.
**Trưng:** (crying, hugging her mother)
I don’t want to go… I just want Dad to stop yelling…
*(Linh takes her daughter and leaves. The door closes.
Silence.)*
**Vinh:** (collapsing, choking with guilt)
What… what have I done…
**Khang (narrator):**
No one becomes cruel overnight.
They just carry too much —
and forget how to set it down.
When they finally let go,
all that’s left is emptiness.
---
### **SCENE 3 – THE AWAKENING**
*Setting: The next morning. Cold light. Empty breakfast
table.*
**Vinh** sits quietly, holding a letter in his trembling
hands.
**Linh’s voice (reading):**
Vinh, I’m not angry — just sad.
Sad that work made you forget why you work —
not to endure, but to live happily.
When you find your smile again, come home.
Our daughter and I will be waiting — for the old Vinh.
*(He clenches the letter. A knock at the door. The
grandparents and Trưng enter.)*
**Khang (grandfather):**
Vinh, I know life is hard.
But being strong doesn’t mean enduring everything —
it means knowing when to stop.
**Vy:**
Work can make money,
but only love can make happiness.
Don’t let pressure steal your heart again.
**Trưng:** (holding up a new drawing)
Daddy, I drew it again.
This time you’re smiling — with Mommy and me beside
you.
Please smile again, Daddy. I miss your smile so much.
*(Vinh strokes her hair, teary-eyed.)*
**Vinh:**
I’m sorry… I promise I’ll never do that again.
**Khang (narrator):**
Pressure itself isn’t bad — it’s a test.
But when you let it control your emotions,
it turns you into someone you no longer recognize.
---
### **ENDING – MESSAGE TO THE AUDIENCE**
**Khang (steps forward):**
Everyone faces pressure, but don’t bring it home.
Learn to share, to listen, to rest.
Work can be redone,
but emotional wounds — sometimes never heal.
Work to live,
not live to work.
Because when pressure takes the throne,
love slowly fades away.
