For this final learning log before your final paper, you can use this document as a template for this
module’s activity: Networking & Online Presence. To do this, click on “File” in the toolbar and “Make a
copy,” or download from the assignment link. For credit for your learning log reflection, type your
answers in this document and submit to your instructor through the Module 10 assignment link by the
end of the module.
Additionally, as noted earlier, I recommend that you save every BUS 109 learning log in one folder and
include a date in the file name to help you stay organized. After you finish your learning log entry, you
can come back and reread your responses later to understand how your opinions have changed or
developed, and to help inform the writing of your final self-assessment reflection paper.

After clicking on Interview Curriculum, select “Job Search Curriculum,” where you
will see a series of videos on networking and online presence.
Consider what topics you’re most interested in getting coaching on.

1. According to the first networking video, what is networking (definition) and the
percentage of jobs found through networking? The video also alludes to a
famous study on networking and the importance of “strong ties” (e.g., family,
friends) versus “weak ties” (e.g., acquaintances). Which can be more
important for setting the stage for successful job searches and why?

Networking is defined as interacting with others to exchange information and
build professional or social contacts. According to the video, 85% of new jobs are
found through networking. While strong ties (like close friends and family) are
helpful, weak ties (acquaintances) can be more important in a job search because
they connect you to new circles and opportunities you wouldn’t find otherwise.
2. The “LinkedIn 101” video provides an overview of the most essential elements
of LinkedIn for job searches. What are your top 2-3 take-aways from the video,
and what is at least one action (or next step) related to LinkedIn that you plan
to take?

The video emphasizes that having a strong, updated LinkedIn profile is
essential for job searching, networking, and building a professional reputation.
It’s important to go beyond copying your resume and instead create a profile
that highlights your strengths and includes the right keywords to show up in
searches. As a next step, I plan to optimize my profile to better reflect my
current skills and career goals.
3. The “Online Presence & Portfolios” goes over the basics about maintaining a
hiring friendly online presence. What are your top 2-3 take-aways from the
video, what is at least one action (or next step) related to improving your
online presence that you plan to take?

While networking has long been critical in job searches, LinkedIn and managing
your online presence has become more important than ever. Please summarize
the main points from any one topic (networking, LinkedIn, or managing online
presence) you decided to learn about. For example, what are your top 3
take-aways from the video(s), and what is at least one action (or next step) related
to the lesson you plan to take? In addition, you may also want to share with the
class any points you agreed or disagreed with, or what was surprising or
interesting to you.

your replies, use a word or phrase that summarizes your posting. Aim to create
