DESCRIPTIVE WRITING

Question: Write a description of traversing through a jungle

The forest was as calm as can be. The trees stood tall as if they were the guardian deities of
the forest, the ground was uneven, and the smell of wet soil filled the area completely. I
walked slowly through the pillars protecting the forest. My heart started thumping louder and
louder with each step. I looked at the trees, the roots twisted across the ground like a pile of
snakes, the trunks were wide, and the bark was rough like sand paper the vines hung low, the
leaves brushing off against my arm, the forest seemed endless. The sound of birds chirping
echoed throughout the entirety of the forest. Although the jungle felt calm, I still felt as if I
was being watched, as though the hidden animals were following my every step, the sunlight
broke free of the thick canopy blocking the entirety of its warmth, I made every step with
caution as there may be snakes or other creatures hiding inside the tall grass in silence, like a
predator watching its prey, waiting for the perfect time to strike. The breeze brushing off
against the leaves made it seem like the forest was whispering secrets to itself. When I
reached a small clearing and stopped, a huge patch of sunlight hit my skin. I felt warm and
safe; it felt like a place where no creature could attack me. As I cut through the thick fog, I
came across a part of the forest where the ground was covered in a thick carpet of bright
green moss, which made it slippery and soft under my shoes. The air started to feel cooler
with each step. The sound of water completely eradicated the silence. I crossed a small
stream with water that sparked like diamonds, clear as ice. It moved rapidly over the rocks. I
took every step with caution as I did not want to fall. I kept walking deeper as the forest got
smaller, the air grew heavier, and I breathed slowly. I was trying to calm down and hear over
the stream of water. The forest was alive, it spoke in many voices, it sang in strange tones, it
moved with hidden life, it held many secrets with itself hidden in the thick white fog. I
walked back towards the stream, the water guided me through the twisting forest, the path
opened up slowly, the fog lifted, the light returned, the exit reappeared, I stepped outside the
forest, the air felt free, The world looked wide again, the eerie fog disappeared. As I made my
way out into the bright, warm world, the atmosphere became lighter and more comforting,
and the scent of freedom consumed the air but I could still see the forest as if it was etched
into my brain. I had a feeling as ifI still being watched not by a person or a creature but by the
forest itself.
