2. Bobo ran a triathlon to raise money for charity. He swam, ran and cycled during the
race. The Distance-Time Graph below shows his journey, use it to answer the following
questions.

2. a) Use the graph to complete the table to show which letter section matches to
which type of travel?
Type of travel Letter of section
Swimming (slowest)
Cycling (fastest)
Running

2. b) James was racing against Bobo. He ran faster than Bobo, swam faster than Bobo
but cycled very slowly, so Bobo finished faster. Draw on the graph how that might have
looked.

3. a) A speedboat is travelling through the water on a calm day. Draw a free-body
diagram to represent all of the forces acting on the speedboat.
(3 marks)
3. b) The speed boat’s normal force and weight are balanced, it has an applied force
of 12,400 N from its propeller, it experiences 500 N of air resistance and 2,600 N of
water resistance. What is its resultant force? (show your working)

15. Read the following passage about hydrogen and its use in airships, then answer the
question below.
Hydrogen is a very light gas, which made it ideal for lifting airships and carrying

In 1937, the Hindenburg airship, filled with hydrogen, caught fire and burst into flames,
tragically killing 35 of the 97 people aboard.
