PROTECTING WOMEN DURING CONFLICTS


Honourable Chair, distinguished delegates,
Wars and conflicts do not impact all people equally. Women and girls
often face the heaviest burden — from displacement to sexual violence,
from losing livelihoods to being denied basic rights. Protecting women
during conflicts is not only a matter of justice but also a necessity for
peace and recovery.
We must ensure strict enforcement of international humanitarian law,
hold perpetrators of gender-based violence accountable, and provide
safe shelters, healthcare, and education for women in conflict zones. At
the same time, women must not only be seen as victims but also as
powerful agents of peace. Their voices in peace negotiations and
rebuilding processes are essential for lasting stability.
Protecting women during conflicts means protecting humanity itself.
When women are safe, societies are stronger, and peace is more
sustainable.

Peace cannot be truly achieved if half of humanity is left behind.

societies.
When women are included, peace agreements are more lasting,
communities recover faster, and justice becomes stronger. Education,
equal rights, and political participation are the keys to this
empowerment. We must break barriers of discrimination and give
women the leadership they rightfully deserve.
Empowering women in peace is not a choice, it is a necessity. A world
where women lead is a world where peace can truly endure.

In warzones, women’s rights activists stand on the frontlines of courage.
They raise their voices against injustice, document abuses, and protect
the vulnerable — often at the cost of their own safety. Yet, they face
threats, imprisonment, and targeted violence simply for defending
human rights.
The international community must act. We need stronger protection
mechanisms, safe corridors, and legal accountability for those who
target women activists. Humanitarian aid must prioritize their security,
while global institutions must amplify their voices, not silence them.
Protecting women rights defenders is not only about safeguarding
individuals — it is about defending the very principles of justice,
equality, and peace. When these brave women are safe, humanity
moves closer to a world free of violence and fear.
