III. PROCEDURE
A. Review Quick review questions:
1. What is a function?
2. How do we evaluate f(x) for a given x-value?
3. What does g(f(x)) mean?
4. How do we substitute expressions into functions?
B. Lesson Development A. Motivation / Introduction
Imagine a machine where you input a number into one

2. Example 1 (Numerical): Let f(x) = 2x + 1 and g(x) = x
g(2) = -1 → f(-1) = 2(-1) + 1 = -1 → So, (f ∘ g)(2) = -1
(Algebraic): If f(x) = x² and g(x) = x + 4, find (f ∘ g)(x)
3. Example 2

f(g(x)) = f(x + 4) = (x + 4)² = x² + 8x + 16
C. Application Directions: Evaluate the following composite functions.

I. OBJECTIVE/S At the end of the lesson, the learners are expected to:
1. Identify and perform operations (addition,
subtraction, multiplication, division) on functions;
and
2. Evaluate the result of the function operations at
given values of x.
II. CONTENTS
A. Subject Matter Operations on Functions with Evaluation
B. References “Math Channel”, Oronce, Orlando A., Reyes, Allan S. pp.

C. Materials Whiteboard and markers, TV and PPT Presentation
III. PROCEDURE
A. Review Activity: Review the following concepts:
• Definition of a function.
• Function notation (e.g., f(x), g(x)).
• Evaluating a single function (e.g., if f(x) = 2x + 3, find
f(4)).
Question prompts:
• What is a function?
• How do we evaluate a function for a specific input?
B. Lesson Development Step 1: Introduce Operations on Functions
• Addition: (f + g)(x) = f(x) + g(x)
• Subtraction: (f - g)(x) = f(x) - g(x)
• Multiplication: (f · g)(x) = f(x) · g(x)
• Division: (f / g)(x) = f(x) / g(x), where g(x) ≠ 0
Example 1: Let f(x) = 2x + 1 and g(x) = x^2
• (f + g)(x) = 2x + 1 + x^2 = x^2 + 2x + 1
• (f - g)(x) = 2x + 1 - x^2 = -x^2 + 2x + 1
• (f · g)(x) = (2x + 1)(x^2) = 2x^3 + x^2
• (f / g)(x) = (2x + 1) / x^2, x ≠ 0
Step 2: Evaluating Operations on Functions
Evaluate each of the following:
• (f + g)(2)
• (f · g)(-1)
Explain step-by-step:
• Substitute the value into both f(x) and g(x)
• Perform the operation
• Simplify the expression
C. Application Instructions: Each pair will be given two functions and
values of x.
Example Task: Given f(x) = 3x - 2, g(x) = x + 4,
evaluate:
• (f + g)(1)

• (f - g)(2)
• (f · g)(0)
• (f / g)(-3)
IV. EVALUATION Individual Work:

1. Find the expression for (f+g)(x) and evaluate it at x =
2.
2. Find the expression for (f-g)(x) and evaluate it at x =
-1.
3. Find the expression for (f·g)(x) and evaluate it at x =
0.
4. Find the expression for (f/g)(x) and evaluate it at x =
1. (State any restrictions)
