2. Example 1: If f(x) = x^2 and g(x) = x + 1,
then (f ÷ g)(x) = x² / (x + 1)

III. PROCEDURE
A. Review Activity: Review the following concepts:
• Definition of a function.
• Function notation (e.g., f(x), g(x)).
• Evaluating a single function (e.g., if f(x) = 2x + 3, find
f(4)).
Question prompts:
• What is a function?
• How do we evaluate a function for a specific input?

B. Lesson Development Step 1: Introduce Operations on Functions

• Addition: (f + g)(x) = f(x) + g(x)
• Subtraction: (f - g)(x) = f(x) - g(x)
• Multiplication: (f · g)(x) = f(x) · g(x)
• Division: (f / g)(x) = f(x) / g(x), where g(x) ≠ 0
Example 1: Let f(x) = 2x + 1 and g(x) = x^2
• (f + g)(x) = 2x + 1 + x^2 = x^2 + 2x + 1
• (f - g)(x) = 2x + 1 - x^2 = -x^2 + 2x + 1
• (f · g)(x) = (2x + 1)(x^2) = 2x^3 + x^2
• (f / g)(x) = (2x + 1) / x^2, x ≠ 0

Step 2: Evaluating Operations on Functions

Evaluate each of the following:
• (f + g)(2)
• (f · g)(-1)
Explain step-by-step:
• Substitute the value into both f(x) and g(x)
• Perform the operation
• Simplify the expression

C. Application Instructions: Each pair will be given two functions and

values of x.
Example Task: Given f(x) = 3x - 2, g(x) = x + 4,
