reflected and part is refracted. If the refracted and refracted beams make an angle of 90 o
with each other, what is the refractive index of the glass? What is the critical angle for the
glass?
Q2: A multimode step index fiber with a core diameter of 80 µm and a refractive index
difference of 1.5 % is operating at a wavelength of 0.85 µm. If the core refractive index is
1.48, estimate the normalized frequency for the fiber and the number of guided modes.
Q3: A step index fiber has a normalized frequency V = 26.6 at 1300 nm wavelength. If
the core radius is 25 µm, find the numerical aperture.
Q4: A step index in air has a numerical aperture of 0.16, a core refractive index of 1.45
and a core diameter of 80 µm. Determine the normalized frequency for the fiber when the
light at a wavelength of 0.85 µm is transmitted. Further, estimate the number of guided
modes propagatingn the fiber.
