Activity 1

The document is a basic calculus lesson plan focusing on the concept of limits, which are essential for understanding calculus as the mathematics of change. It includes activities for students to illustrate and distinguish between the limit of a function and the value of a function at a specific point. The lessons progress from understanding limits through tables and graphs to applying limit laws in evaluating algebraic functions.

LESSON 1
Illustrating the Limit of a Function using Table of Values and Graph of the Function

Introduction:
Limits are the backbone of calculus, and calculus is called Mathematics of CHANGE. The study of limits is necessary
in studying change in great detail. The evaluation of a particular limit is what underlies the formulation of the derivative
and the integral of a function.
We will consider functions of a single variable and study the behavior of the function as its variable approaches a
particular value (a constant). The variable can only take values very close to the constant, but it cannot equal the constant
itself. However, the limit will be able to describe clearly what is happening to the function near that constant.

Instruction: Answer the following questions below based on what you have understood from the activity above. Write your answer
after each question.
1. What can you observe as you substitute each value of x on the given function?
