Q. 1. What is a word processor? Write any three applications of a word processor.
A word processor is a software program used to create, edit, format, and print text
documents.
It allows the user to write letters, reports, applications, and other documents easily and neatly.

Applications of a word processor (any three):


1.​ Creating and editing documents​

2.​ Formatting text​
(changing font size, style, color, alignment)
3.​ Spell checking and grammar checking
4.​ Inserting pictures, tables, and graphs

Q. 2. Discuss the margins and paper size options in the Page Setup Group.

Margins:

The Margins option in the Page Setup group is used to set the blank space around the edges
of a page.​
These margins include:

●​ Top margin
●​ Bottom margin
●​ Left margin
●​ Right margin

Users can choose from preset margin settings (like Normal, Narrow, Wide) or set custom
margins according to their needs. Margins help in making the document look neat and
well-organized.

Paper Size:

The Paper Size option is used to select the size of the paper on which the document will be
printed. Common paper sizes include:

●​ Letter
●​ Legal
●​ A4
●​ A5​
Selecting the correct paper size ensures that the document fits properly on the page when
printed.

Q. 3. Name and describe two options in orientation.

The Orientation option in the Page Setup group allows the user to change the direction of the
page for printing or viewing. It has two options:

1. Portrait

In Portrait orientation, the page is taller than it is wide.​


This orientation is commonly used for writing letters, applications, and most documents.

2. Landscape

In Landscape orientation, the page is wider than it is tall.​


It is useful for printing spreadsheets, tables, charts, and wide images.

Q. 4. How can we apply margins in a document?

To apply margins in a document, follow these steps:

1.​ Open the Layout tab (or Page Layout tab) on the Ribbon.​

2.​ In the Page Setup group, click on Margins.​

3.​ A list of preset margin options (such as Normal, Narrow, Moderate, Wide) will appear.​

4.​ Select any preset margin, or click Custom Margins to set your own top, bottom, left, and
right margins.​

5.​ The selected margins will be applied to the document.

Q. 5. Describe the different types of breaks in MS Word.

MS Word provides different types of breaks to control the flow of text from one section or page
to another. The main types are:

1. Page Break

A Page Break moves the text to the next page.​


It is used when you want to start a new page without filling the current one.

2. Column Break
A Column Break moves the text to the next column in a multi-column document.​
It helps in arranging newsletters or newspaper-style documents.

3. Section Breaks

Section breaks divide the document into separate sections, allowing each section to have
different formatting.​
The commonly used section breaks are:

●​ Next Page: Starts a new section on the next page.


●​ Continuous: Starts a new section on the same page.
●​ Even Page: Starts the section on the next even-numbered page.
●​ Odd Page: Starts the section on the next odd-numbered page.

example.

●​ It allows the text to move above, below, or around the object in different ways.
●​ Example: Text can flow around a picture in a newsletter using the Wrap Text option.

Q. 9. In what way does a ToC help book readers?

A Table of Contents (ToC) helps book readers in the following ways:

1.​ It shows the main topics and chapters of the book in order.
2.​ It helps readers find specific information quickly without reading the entire book.
3.​ It provides an overview of the book’s structure, making it easier to understand.
4.​ It saves time by directing the reader to the exact page of a topic.

Example: In a science textbook, the ToC allows a student to quickly find the chapter on
“Photosynthesis” and go directly to the correct page.
Q. 10. Write steps that will multiply 37 x 15 using the formula bar in MS Excel.

1.​ Open MS Excel and click on any cell where you want the result.
2.​ Click on the formula bar at the top of the Excel window.
3.​ Type the formula: =37*15
4.​ Press Enter.
5.​ The result (555) will appear in the selected cell.

Q. 11. Why do we use Watermark in a document? Give some examples of Watermarks.

A Watermark is a faint text or image placed in the background of a document.

Purpose of using Watermark:

1.​ It shows the status of the document, e.g., Draft, Confidential, or Sample.

3.​ It adds a professional look to official documents.
