About Generative AI

Generative AI and aiR

Generative AI is an exciting new realm of artificial intelligence that takes text as input in order to create an output. Relativity
aiR products leverage the power of generative AI to expedite processes in RelativityOne while keeping data secure and
providing trustworthy and validated results. Each product was developed specifically to meet a legal challenge with detailed
explanations of every output decision.

Relativity aiR
aiR for Review
aiR for Review quickly and efficiently performs document review powered by generative AI. aiR for Review utilizes a
large language model (LLM) to predict responsive documents, locate specific legal issues, and pinpoint key documents
at the start of a case. It can then explain the detailed rationale behind its decisions by providing excerpts from identified
documents. Consistent recommendations reduce the coding discrepancies that come with traditional document review.
• Types of aiR for Review analysis:
− Relevance review: analyzes whether documents are relevant to a case, such as documents responsive to a
production request.
− Issues review: locates material relating to different legal issues.
− Key documents: finds key documents important to a case.
• Typical aiR for Review workflow:
1. Select the documents to review.
2. Create an aiR for Review project and choose analysis type.

3. Write and submit prompt criteria per Relativity best practices. Prompt kickstarter can optionally be used to create
prompt criteria from up to five existing case documents.
4. Run the analysis and review the results, which consists of citations, rationale, and considerations.

aiR for Privilege

aiR for Privilege analyzes documents to consistently identify them as privileged during a first-pass privilege review while
citing excerpts from each document. Its provided data points can drive quality control (QC) checks, final review decisions,
and privilege log creation. The tool utilizes information such as social network graphs and external profiles to develop a
more complete understanding of the individual communicating and their role/privilege status.

aiR for Case Strategy

aiR for Case Strategy extracts critical facts, a timeline of events, and context of all key aspects of case to build a complete
case narrative to more efficiently prepare for depositions and trial. After document review, this tool can immediately begin
strategizing to present a clear overview of the story of a case.

Privacy and Security

• aiR products are integrated with Microsoft Azure’s OpenAI services. All data stays secure within RelativityOne, and any
customer data used for analysis is never retained by Relativity or Microsoft.

• Throughout every component of aiR, Relativity’s AI Principles are put into practice to ensure confidence and
trustworthiness in leveraging these powerful generative AI tools.

Common questions

Powered by AI

Relativity recommends developing prompt criteria by refining them on small sets of documents before running them across larger populations. This approach ensures that the prompt criteria are accurate and precise and allows for quick iterations to improve quality .

Relativity implements AI principles throughout all components of their aiR products to ensure confidence and trustworthiness. This includes integrating AI with Microsoft Azure's OpenAI services while ensuring data security within RelativityOne and not retaining customer data by either Relativity or Microsoft .

Human review is essential for quality checking in Relativity’s AI-driven processes. Even with aiR products making predictions, human reviewers verify the AI's output to ensure accuracy and mitigate biases by not showing AI predictions during coding to prevent undue influence .

aiR's security measures align with industry standards by ensuring that data remains within the secure environment of RelativityOne and is not retained post-analysis. This practice adheres to data protection standards, requiring data minimization and protection against unauthorized access .

Relativity advises against using complex or filler legal terminology in AI prompt criteria. Instead, it recommends focusing on simple and clear terminology to ensure AI comprehensively understands the context without being overloaded by unnecessary complexity or misinterpretations .

The Case Summary section in aiR products' prompt criteria provides a place to define key people, organizations, and terms, and gives a general overview of the matter. This setup enhances document analysis by providing context and ensuring that AI models understand the key elements central to a case, thereby improving analysis accuracy .

Relativity suggests configuring aiR for Review so that human reviewers do not see AI predictions while coding. This reduces confirmation bias and encourages unbiased review, ensuring that the AI tool's predictions do not unduly influence human judgment .

Generative AI's advantages in legal reviews include increased efficiency and the ability to handle large data sets by identifying relevant documents quickly. However, limitations exist, such as potential bias in AI predictions and the need for rigorous prompt criterion testing to ensure accuracy, as AI might hallucinate or provide factually incorrect results if not correctly guided .

Relativity aiR products address legal industry challenges by offering use cases such as relevance analysis and issue resolution during document reviews. For instance, aiR for Review can identify documents containing specific issues crucial to a case, thereby streamlining document analysis and preparation for legal proceedings .

Relativity ensures data privacy by integrating their aiR products with Microsoft Azure's OpenAI services whereby all data remains secure within the RelativityOne ecosystem, and any data used for AI analysis is not retained by Relativity or Microsoft, maintaining confidentiality and privacy standards .
