Statement of the Problem
This study aimed to determine the level of parental involvement
in the New Normal in one of the secondary schools in the Division of
Negros Occidental during the School Year 2023-2024.
Specifically, this study sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the respondents in terms of the following
variables?
a. Age
b. Sex
c. Grade Level
2. What is the level of Parental Involvement in the New Normal
according to the following areas?
a. Learning Support System
b. Parenting Capabilities
c. Parent-Teacher Partnership
3. What is the level of Parental Involvement in the New Normal when
grouped according to the aforementioned variables?
4. Is there a significant difference in the level of Parental Involvement
in the New Normal when grouped and compared according to the
aforementioned variables?
Hypothesis
There is no significant difference in the level of Parental
Involvement in the New Normal when grouped and compared
according to the aforementioned variables.
Assumptions of the Study
The Parental Involvement in the New Normal varies to a certain
Level.

Scope of the Study
The study was limited to describing the parental involvement of
parents in one of the secondary schools in the Division of Negros
Occidental for the school year 2023-2024. The profile of the
respondents includes age, sex, and grade level. The level of parental
involvement in three areas was the learning support system, parenting
capabilities, and parent-teacher partnership. The study utilized a
descriptive research design and will make use of the 102 parents. The
data-gathering instrument was a self-made questionnaire and was
subject to validity and reliability tests. Descriptive and comparative
analytical schemes were employed, and the data gathered were
subjected to SPSS with frequency count, percentage, mean, Mann-
Whitney U test, and Kruskal Wallis H test as statistical tools.
Research Methodology
This section presents the methods used in gathering the
data among the respondents. It includes research design, the locale of
the study, respondents, data gathering instrument, validity of the
research instrument, reliability of the research instrument, data
gathering procedure, analytical schemes, and statistical tools.
Research Design
This study employed the descriptive research design.
According to Bueno (2016), this design is to describe
systematically the facts and characteristics of a given population or
area of interest, factually and accurately. Furthermore, the purpose of
this study are to collect detailed factual information that describes
existing phenomena, to identity problems or justify current conditions
and practices, to make comparisons and evaluations, and to determine
what others are doing with similar problems or situations and benefit
from their experience in making future plans and decisions.
Respondents of the Study
The respondents of the study include the 102 students
from Grade 7 to grade 10 of one of the secondary public school in
Southern part of Negros Occidental for the school year 2022-2023.
Likewise, the parents will also be part of the study as respondents.
Since the total number of target respondents are quite manageable.
Purposive sampling techniques will be employed.
Purposive Samling technique is a non-probability sampling
technique.

Data Gathering Instrument
The research instrument that will be used will be taken from an
open access source which is the Parental Involvement questionnaire.
The instrument includes items from each domains and has likert scale
that ranges from 5 to 1 and is a checklist. The part 1 of the instrument
is Profile of the parents, the second part is the involvement of the
parents subdivided in three categories such as capabilities of the
parents, willingness to participate and responsibility of the parents.
The results were gathered and recorded; later, they were
analyzed using SPSS. The respondents were asked to rate each item
using the five-point Likert scale, which contains the following scores: 5
– Always; 4 – Often; 3 – Sometimes; 2 – Rarely; and 1 – Almost never.
Research Ethics Protocol
The researcher will ensure that no personal data compromising
the respondents' identity will be collected in adherence to the Data
Privacy Act of 2012, specifically on accessing the data both by the
researcher and the analyst. The researcher will be the only person with
access to all data gathered. The respondents will be assured that no
information that discloses their identity will be released or published
without their consent to the said disclosure, except when necessary to
protect their rights and welfare. Likewise, all collected materials will be
appropriately disposed of by machine shredding or dissolved in water
after the publication of the study. Furthermore, soft copies of the data
will be deleted with no chance of future retrieval.
Analytical Schemes
Objective no. 1 descriptive analytical scheme was used to
determine the profile of the respondents in terms of Age, Sex, Grade
Level.
Objective no. 2 descriptive analytical scheme was used to
determine the level of Parental Involvement in the New Normal
according to Learning Support System, Parenting Capabilities, and
Parent-Teacher Partnership.
Objective no. 3 descriptive analytical scheme was also used to
determine the level of Parental Involvement in the New Normal when
grouped according to the aforementioned variables.
Objective no. 4 comparative analytical scheme was used to
determine the level of Parental Involvement in the New Normal when
grouped and compared according to the aforementioned variables.
Statistical Tools
Objective no. 1 to determine the profile of the respondents in
terms of Age, Sex, and Grade Level, the frequency count and
percentage was used.
This statistical tool is appropriate to be used in establishing the
typical characteristics of the group respondents of the study. A
percentage frequency distribution displays data that specifies the
percentage of observations that exist for each data point or grouping
of data points. A frequency distribution provides categorical
information on number of occurrences. Summarized data allows for
faster reader assessment of a described sample than reading through
individual quantitative statements. (Burrell and Motel, 2017).
Objective no. 2 To determine the level of Parental Involvement in
the New Normal according to Learning Support System, Parenting
Capabilities, and Parent-Teacher Partnership mean was used.
The statistical mean has a wide range of applicability in various
types of experimentation. This type of calculation eliminates random
errors and helps to derive a more accurate result than a result derived
from a single experiment. The statistical mean can also be used to
interpret statistical data. Mean is best used for a data set with
numbers that are close together (Jackson, 2021).
The mean scores will be interpreted as follows:
Range Score Verbal Interpretation
4.50 - 5.00 Very High Level
3.50 - 4.49 High Level
2.50 – 3.49 Moderate Level
1.50 – 2.49 Low Level
1.00 – 1.49 Very Low Level
Objective no. 3 to determine the level of Parental Involvement in the
New Normal when grouped according to the aforementioned variables,
mean was also used.
Objective no. 4 which is to find out whether or not a significant
difference exists in the level of Parental Involvement in the New
Normal when grouped and compared according to the aforementioned
variables, Mann Whitney U test was used for Age and Sex, while
Kruskal Wallis H test for grade level.
According to LaMorte (2017), Mann Whitney U test is a non-
parametric test, sometimes called the Mann Whitney Wilcoxon Test or
the Wilcoxon Rank Sum Test, is used to test whether two samples are
likely to derive from the same population. Kruskal Wallis H test is
another nonparametric test which is used to compare three or more
independent groups. This is the counterpart of the F test (ANOVA) in
par
Finally, the computation of the p-value is interpreted using the
following guide Reject the null hypothesis if the p-value is equal to or
less than 0.05 level of significance and Accept the null hypothesis if
the p-value is greater than 0.05 level of significance.
