HOW DO I MOVE?
Objectives: After the activity, the student should be able to:
1. Measure how fast they can walk;
2. Measure the average speed travelled;
3. Compare the speed of each member of the team; and
4. Demonstrate teamwork in gathering data.
Materials: stopwatch meterstick distance markers
baton/ relay stick
Procedure:
A. Preliminaries:
1. Measure 20 meters across the field, placing the distance markers for every 5
meters.
2. Assign a timekeeper and recorder for every distance marker.
B. Activity Proper
1. Divide the class into 2 groups. One group will stay in the starting point while the
other group will stay at the finish point.
2. As the teacher gives the signal to start, the first student will walk along the entire
path. The timekeeper will note the time as each student passes the designated
marker. (NOTE: The time to record shall be from the starting point until the
student reaches every distance marker.) The recorder will use the table to record
the data.
3. As each student reaches the 20-meter marker, they should pass the relay stick
to another student from the other group.
4. Continue the activity until all students have their turn. After the activity, the
recorder shall convene to complete the tabulated and share them to the class for
graphing and to answer questions.
5. Plot your data, with d in the y-axis and t in the x – axis.
GUIDE QUESTIONS:
1. Who among your group walked the fastest?
2. Who among your group walked the slowest?
3. Which quantity did you use to identify the fastest or slowest member?
4. Solve for the slope. Use the formula. Use the distance and time from the Table 1.
Pair your data of 20m with 5m, 20m with 10m and 20m with 15m.
𝑑𝑓 − 𝑑𝑖 20𝑚−0𝑚 20𝑚
Sample: Slope = = = = 5 m/s
𝑡𝑓 − 𝑡𝑖 4 𝑠−0 𝑠 4𝑠
5. Based on your answers for the slope, how would you compare the slope to your
answers in Table 2?
