Part 1 – Warm-up

1. How often do you use Instagram or Facebook?

I use Instagram almost every day, but I try not to spend too much time on it. Usually, I check it in the
morning or in the evening for about twenty to thirty minutes. I do not use Facebook as often as
Instagram, but I still log in a few times a week, mainly to stay connected with family members or to
follow informative pages. I believe that using social media regularly is normal nowadays, but it is
important to control how much time we spend on it so that it does not affect our daily responsibilities.

2. What do you usually use social media for?

I mainly use social media to communicate with friends and relatives, especially those who live far away.
It is also a useful tool for getting information, such as news, educational content, and learning tips. I
follow pages related to language learning and personal development, which helps me improve my skills.
In addition, I sometimes use social media for entertainment, like watching short videos or relaxing after
a busy day, but I try to keep a balance.

Part 2 – Long Answer

3. Do you think social media affects young people positively or negatively? Why?

In my opinion, social media affects young people both positively and negatively, depending on how it is
used. On the positive side, social media helps young people stay connected, express themselves, and
access educational content easily. Many students use platforms like Instagram and Facebook to follow
educational pages, online courses, and motivational content. This can support learning and personal
growth.

However, the negative effects can be serious if social media is overused. Many young people compare
themselves to others, which can lead to low self-esteem, stress, and anxiety. Seeing perfect images and
lifestyles can create unrealistic expectations. In addition, social media addiction can reduce
concentration, affect academic performance, and limit real-life communication. Therefore, social media
can be beneficial or harmful, and the key factor is responsible and balanced use.

4. How can people control the amount of time they spend on social media?

People can control their social media use by becoming more aware of their habits. One effective method
is setting daily time limits using phone applications that track screen time. This helps users see how
much time they spend online and encourages them to reduce unnecessary usage. Another useful
strategy is turning off notifications, which reduces the urge to check social media constantly.

In addition, people should replace excessive social media use with productive activities such as reading,
exercising, or spending time with family. Creating a daily schedule and following it can also improve time
management. When individuals have clear goals and priorities, they are less likely to waste time
scrolling through social media without purpose.

Part 3 – Discussion

5. Should schools teach students how to use social media responsibly?

Yes, I strongly believe that schools should teach students how to use social media responsibly. Social
media plays a major role in young people’s lives, but many students are not aware of its risks. Schools
can educate students about online safety, privacy protection, cyberbullying, and digital etiquette. This
knowledge can help students avoid harmful behavior and develop healthy online habits.

Moreover, teaching responsible social media use prepares students for the future. In today’s digital
world, online behavior can affect academic and professional opportunities. Therefore, schools have an
important responsibility to guide students in using technology wisely.

6. Do you think social media companies should be responsible for users’ mental health?

I believe that social media companies should take partial responsibilitto guide students in using
technology wisely.

6. Do you think social media companies should be responsible for users’ mental health?

I believe that social media companies should take partial responsibility for users’ mental health. These
companies design platforms to keep users engaged for long periods, which can lead to addiction and
stress. Therefore, they should provide tools that help users control their screen time and reduce
exposure to harmful content.

However, users also have personal responsibility. People must make conscious decisions about how
they use social media. In my opinion, responsibility should be shared between companies and users to
create a healthier digital environment.

7. How do Instagram and Facebook influence modern communication?

Instagram and Facebook have changed modern communication significantly. They allow people to
communicate instantly through messages, comments, and video calls, regardless of distance. This has
made communication faster and more convenient. People can share ideas, opinions, and experiences
with a wide audience in seconds.

At the same time, online communication has reduced face-to-face interaction. Some people prefer
texting instead of speaking in person, which may weaken real-life communication skills. Therefore, while
Instagram and Facebook make communication easier, they also change how people interact socially.

8. Will social media become more harmful or more useful in the future?

In my opinion, social media will become more useful if people learn how to use it responsibly.
Technology continues to develop, and social media platforms are becoming more advanced in
education, business, and communication. If used wisely, social media can support learning, creativity,
and global connection.

However, if users continue to overuse social media without control, it may become more harmful. The
future of social media depends largely on user awareness, education, and responsible design. With the
right balance, social media can remain a powerful and positive tool in our lives.
